Saban can keep dreaming. Landon Collins and Eric Reid were best friends at Dutchdown and Landon views Eric as a mentor. LSU was the 1st to offer. He signs with LSU early in the process his senior year.

He wouldn't be doing his job, if he didn't shake every tree. LSU fans should know better than most.

If Saban doesn't hop a jet plane to run from the 1st sign of adversity, then he would not be doing his job. Wait for it...

I hear Saban is really turning the screws on Clowney and things are beginning to look positive for bama regarding him.

What have you heard?

Just let this be the end of the "Saban's leaving..." theme once he returns for 2011, considering how much LSU's 2004 season and Alabama's 2010 season mirrored one another.

He'll be in-home with Clowney tonight. I still think that his family gets him to stay in-state.

Well you don't care about your own family, I guess that's possible.

I kid, I kid.

Seriously though, this is one of the perks of NOT playing in the SECCG. This week is big for a lot of coaches around the southeast.

I knew Collins is good, but to have Saban committing a violation so early in his recruitment really says something.

Collins is a junior isn't he? If so, this is like the Jonathan Wade situation.

Bump rule.Saban can visit his school.Just not direct contact with him except the bump and greet.

Capstone,Did the rules change or is Saban using his in home very early?I know it used to be 1 for a head coach.Seems a little early to be visiting Clowney since he is going to wait until NSD anyway.Maybe feels the need to get it done to catch up a little?Just curious to the reasoning, thanks.

...is probably not the same as

Also seems like an out of the way trip just to say "Hi" if he is visiting Clowney tonight .

Yeah definitely seems strange for him to be in LA early and then SC at night but with the jets these days coaches can do it.

As for Collins,it wouldn't be that big a leap considering Bama is mostly concentrating on 2012 kids right now. They pretty much have every kid for this class locked up or are waiting for the kids to make their decisions. Most of the leg work for this class has been done. Some people misinterpret visiting with an actual sit down.Visiting a kids school is technically considered an off campus visit or contact. It's all in the wording and double meaning.Trust me our coaches will be doing the same thing over the next 6 weeks.

Our staff doesn't do it nearly as much as others, that's why you always see whining on this board (and others) about certain coaches calling or visiting underclassmen at school and our staff not doing the same. Most people don't realize it is a violation. Check some of the recent Diarse threads as an example.

The only thing I may have misinterpreted is the original post when he said "visiting with Landon Collins". Perhaps he meant Saban showed up, introduced himself to Collins, and left....but I highly doubt it. If it was anything other than that then it was indeed a violation. The same thing caused us to get a self impose some minor penalties, including cutting ties with Wade, and the NCAA accepted it.
