We've already got 7 commits for the 2018 class. Only one is from Louisiana, Landon Marceaux from Destrehan. The headliner is Team USA shortstop Brice Turang out of California.

It's for the class that are sophomores right now. I'm sure it will fill up with more Louisiana kids, but they have to be selective. I don't think this is an issue at all.

The 2016 and 2017 have plenty of Louisiana kids. In fact, we've just recently added another to the 2016 class.

Really hard to get excited about baseball recruiting because the likely hood that the top recruits will ever make it to campus are slim to none.

In state kids you can afford to wait a little longer before going all in on recruiting them. LSU baseball recruits nationally so you go out and try and get the top recruits from everywhere then come back home and fill what you need. Some in state kids will take that as a slight and not come to LSU but most will be glad to accept any offer at any time.

He still has 2 years to find some good La prospects. Might as well go after the top players before someone else does.

Not really. Most are done before their senior years. Not staying it's do or die and LSU has to offer right now. Just saying most will not wait until their senior year to commit in baseball. It's a lot different than football. Thing is, there are a ton of sophomores that aren't playing at the moment because they're stuck behind seniors or not playing their true position. I would think the class of 2018 recruiting should really get rolling for baseball this summer.

If you are from Louisiana and lsu offers you a baseball scholarship, you are probably going to forget about any other offer you have.

Honestly, not true. I used to think that was the case. Now, kids are going to take the best offer. I've talked to several and asked why in the world they would go to Bama/Mississippi State etc. All of them said they went to the team that paid for their school and LSU just didn't offer much at all.

Yeah if LSU offers to pay for their school, it's an easy decision. That's not the case though, TOPs is leaned on heavily.

Let me rephrase then, if you are from Louisiana and LSU wants you (willing to match your best offer) you will forget about your other offers.

Pretty much, but there are outliers.

Isn't a "commit" just verbal?? They may commit some where before their Senior year but don't they sign in their Senior year?

Is college baseball possibly the toughest recruiting gig for an elite program? You obviously want to recruit the best, but not such high caliber that you'll never see them on campus.
