When weights are taken on Barrow and Jones, I think alot of folks change their tune in the Fall.
Ok but what about baker, minter, muncie, welter?
Barrow is listed at 221. you say he is going to be under 200lbs?
This weight bullshite has been commented on about very position through out the years. It is complete horseshite. If you work hard and are a good player you dont need to be the ideal height and weight in college.
For example, our linebackers played solid all year long save against cam newton. When this same thing was said last year.

Why would I say that if we are looking for someone to help in the middle.
KS was weighed in at 250... not saying he needs to be 250, but a solid 230 would be better if we are looking a plugging an OLB inside.

While I agree with you, there are limitations.

we already have a number of young LB's. Why take up space in this class to not get the guy we want? How many true freshmen come in and make significant contributions in the SEC at linebaker? Sheppard didn't. We will get our pick of LB's next year in state. Already got 1 committed. Just wait 372 days and you will see. Go smoke a fat one and relax!!!!

I REALLY hate that we lost out on CJ. He was probably the one recruit that I wanted the most for our defense. However, looking at our roster, I don't think we're THAT bad off. I posted this on another thread. Take a look and let just hope we've got some players........some have got great measurables.
I'll admit that I've been one of the guys who is very concerned about the LB position. On a defense that looks to be DOMINANT up front and ridiculously talented in the backfield for at least 2-3 more years ( if someone can please teach them to tackle!! ), the LB corps looks to be a weak link in an otherwise BCS-NG caliber chain.
However, looking at our roster, this is who we currently have coming back or coming in. I was actually a bit relieved. We've got a few guys with great measurables and anyone moved to the LB position would likely be a great fit, as well.
Kevin Minter... LB... 6-1... 225... Fr. RS Suwanee, Ga. (Peachtree Ridge HS)
Ryan Baker... LB... 6-0... 227... Jr. 2L Grand Ridge, Fla. (Blountstown HS)
Stefoin Francois...LB... 6-1... 215... Jr. 1L Reserve, La. (East St. John HS)
Lamin Barrow... LB... 6-2... 221... Fr. RS Marrero, La. (John Ehret HS)
Nick Rice... LB... 6-1... 219... Fr. RS Coppell, Texas (Coppell HS)
Tahj Jones... LB... 6-2... 205... Fr. RS Sulphur, La. (Sulphur HS)
Seth Fruge... LB... 5-11... 200... Fr. RS Welsh, La. (Notre Dame HS)
Justin Maclin... LB( DE )..6-4.. 230... Fr. HS Memphis, Tenn. (Ridgeway HS)
Luke Muncie... LB... 6-3... 223... Fr. HS Klein, Texas (Oak HS)
D.J. Welter... LB... 6-0... 226... Fr. HS Crowley, La. (Notre Dame HS)
Jarrett Hardnett...LB... 6-2... 230... So. TR Baton Rouge, La. (Woodlawn HS/Northwestern St.)
Josh Johns... LB... 6-2... 206... Fr. RS Baton Rouge, La. (Central HS)
Trevon Randle... LB... 6-1... 205... 2011 commit League City, Tx. ( Clear Springs HS )

If we're going to talk about moving someone to LB, why not bring over one of our TE's. They've got speed and size.
Chase Clement TE.. 6-5.. 261.. So. 1L
Mitch Joseph TE.. 6-5.. 265.. Jr. 2L
Travis Dickson TE.. 6-3.. 243.. Fr. HS
Nic Jacobs TE.. 6-5.. 265.. Fr. HS
Tyler Edwards TE.. 6-4.. 250.. So. 1L
Josh Gast TE.. 6-3.. 211.. So. TR
Jeremy Peeples TE.. 6-4.. 240.. Fr. RS
Greg Ostrom TE.. 6-4.. 217.. Fr. RS

well for starters, Baker is a beast. and i think it's time for the younger players to step up. Baker will be a great leader for the D this year i think.
maybe taylor can step up and take over some of the "quarterbacking" duties of the MLB if Minter isn't quite there yet. and i think Hatcher isn't going to be playing much CB so i say give him a shot at least at LB. dude can hit.
and above all else, gotta trust the chief. geaux chavis and

I notice when we play a spread team our defense uses only two LBs and plays an extra DB as the nickle back.

I keep hearing baker is a beast but what he have like 70 tackles for the season? that is not very good for a starting LB. The dude does not shed blocks very well and is average at covering backs out of the backfield. He is an average LB but sad to say is probably the best LSU has returning. Have you watched any replays of the games this season. What was his best game this year? 6 tackles. I hope he becomes a beast this year and has like 100 tackles. He will prove me wrong early i hope against Oregon. If he plays a great game then i will eat my crow but until then i'm still skeptical

maclin is DE all the way now

Yeah, I just don't understand that. As hard up as we are for great LB's and as highly touted as he was coming out of HS, we shoulda kept him at LB. He's a big boy, but he had great speed and, I think, would have made one helluva MLB. The kind that tears apart offenses and gets remembered for a long time.
Thats the kind of LB we need within the next year or two.
I sure hope someone, or two, steps up.

meh, i dont think so...think he came to LSU to play LB fro Chavis...he was a vol all the way until we got chavis...still think he makes a move...it was discussed before, ill try to find some links...

I honestly believe les has left a huge hole in the defense with only signing 1 lb this class.
Why? We only have 1 leaving...

Then its catch 22 when we play the power teams (alabama, Miss st) because we have 6 ft 210 guys going against 6ft6 320 linemen that get run over and never get to the back.
Two of our better defensive showings on the year...
Posted on 1/26/11 at 12:23 pm to tigerfoot
Oh i thought you meant they dont weigh as much as people think. So by that i thought you were saying our linebackers are going to be small. The same thing was said this year and that we would be suspect to teams like bama with a power run game. A few people had stated this strictly based on weight, not the player's actual ability.

Baker was better than Sheppard last year... I don't think I saw Sheppard get off a block once...

I have to agree with this. Point in case go look at the Auburn game. Shepard was lost in the mush and couldnt get to th eoutside on those option plays. Matter of fact he couldnt make the angle when that boy went 78 yards for the winning score. he was way out of position.

Wait a minute here boys are we saying that sheppard and baker could not get off blocks as much as people deny it here. They were beast according to most on here.I watched the season and this continued in almost every game. I watched TCU LB's get around WISC 330 OLineman all game and tacle RB's behind the line of scrimage. All i'm saying is LSU needs these types of guys and we should be able to get them but yet here we are going into another season with question marks at LB
