Sadly, recruiting under Orgeron is like the rest of the football program right now...all talk, little in the way of results

We addressed a lot of needs with this recruiting class. The ranking isn't as high as people want it to be but it will help the team in areas where we were lacking last year and build a solid base for the future.

We got a great class, not because of the “stars” but because we filled the holes we had on the team. Disappointing that we didn’t get Surtain, I agree. Now we make him regret his decision.

I don't believe LSU has had anyone from Covington County. although Steve McNair always wanted a scholarship

but this was the worst class we’ve had since Miles first year.

Another thing about this class that is being missed is that two defensive linemen that signed were at one time 5-star offensive linemen or one was at least a much higher rated offensive linemen.

Regular recruiting board posters may remember that when Dare Rosenthal was committed to Bama he was a 5-star. When he said he was going to play defense he was dropped to a 3-star and worked his way back up to being a 4-star DT.

Chasen Hines was a top 10 O-Lineman who also decided to move to defense and dropped in the rankings.

"Hines, then considered a top-10 offensive line prospect, committed to Jeff Grimes, despite a ferocious push from several other notable in-state programs. He signed with LSU during the early signing period.

Hines’ recruitment took a turn in the fall when Texas re-offered the 4-star prospect and projected guard as a defensive tackle. Hines was on the verge of a flip before discussing it with coach Ed Orgeron, who followed suit and re-offered him as a defensive tackle as well."
Signee 101: Get to know 4-star LSU DL Chasen Hines

Both of these guys MAY wind up on the offensive line where they were previously ranked much higher.

And got Jacob Phillips to flip from Oklahoma six days prior to signing day. Phillips was the #1 player in the nation at his position.

Tyler Taylor looks really solid as well

I feel really good about the interior LBs and defensive line next year.

The front 7 overall should be very good and have real depth that will help us win close games

We will need defensive depth because our offense could be putrid next season

Jacob was #1 at his position, Tyler was ONLY the 11th rated ILB. The Rantards who are invading this board aint got time for lowly players who are only ranked 11th at their position. Even if said player did start and play A LOT his freshman season.

Another thing the Lunatic Fringe idiots in this thread are missing, is that Eaux recruited and signed three highly rated players that will never show up in a recruiting ranking.

Breiden Fehoko - LSU bio:
Five-star prospect by Scout ... Four-star prospect by Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN ... Member of the Rivals 250 (122) and the ESPN 300 (51) ... Under Armour High School All-American ... Attended The Opening Football Camp in Oregon in the summer of 2014 ... Ranked as the No. 4 defensive lineman in this year's class by Scout and the No. 24 overall prospect. Started all 25 games of his Red Raider career

Jonathon Giles - LSU bio:
Transformed into not only Texas Tech's leading receiver as a sophomore but one of the best wide outs in the country. Led the Red Raiders with 1,158 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 69 catches. Was added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list midway through the season. Two-time District 23-5A MVP ... Finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club Offensive Player of the Year ... Academic All-American ... Threw for 2,196 yards (174-of-266) and 17 touchdowns as a quarterback in 2014 ... Rushed for 758 yards on 113 carries and scored 15 touchdowns that season as well.

Thadeus Moss -
The No. 123 player nationally regardless of position by Rivals.com ... No. 6 tight end nationally and No. 7 overall player in North Carolina by Rivals.com ... The No. 18 tight end nationally, No. 2 in North Carolina by Scout.com.

Add these three guys to this year's class and the ranking would most assuredly be MUCH HIGHER.

It'll be ok. Rankings don't mean anything. Recruiting is overrated. Greedy, Jacob Hester, tyrann, all worked out so we are banking on a class full of underrated guys that's all. No need to worry. I'm sure all of ours are underrated and bama and Georgia got bumps and overrated guys. All is well. Carry on Ree and friends

You are crazy if you think we have a bunch of underrated guys in this class. We signed the best wide receiver class and added quality guys on both fronts. What alternate universe do you live in?

Let's review "all of these underrated guys" as you call them that we'll have to rely on. I'll post position rankings from 247 as to remain consistent

Terrace Marshall WR
Position rank #3

Travez MOORE WDE
Position rank #1

Micah Baskerville ILB
Position rank #14

Badara Traore OT
Position rank #2

Cole Smith C
Position rank #8

Damien Lewis G
Position rank #3

Kelvin Joseph S (will likely play CB)
Position rank #5

Jamar Chasse WR
Position rank #15

Jarell Cherry WDE
Position rank # 12

Chris Curry RB
Position rank #15

I only listed players that were top 15 at their respective positions

In addition to those players we also have the following 4* guys in this class

Davin Cotton DT
Chasen Hines DT
Dare Rosenthal DT
Kenan Jones WR
Damone Clark ILB

That's 15 players who are either top 15 at their position or at least a 4 star. The only 3 start players of the 15 that I listed was Cole Smith an Damien Lewis who are both in the top 8 of their respective positions.

Tell me again how we're going to be relying on all of these "underrated guys" to succeed you Tide pod eating moron.

The one where I look at reality. Aside from receiver, what position group would you say is a championship haul? If we finished 14 or 15th nationally, do you consider that a championship class?

Is this the class, top to bottom, that you think will match up with our competitors?

Again, it's the 15th ranked class in the country. That's the "alternate universe" in which I live. The one that uses facts and objectivity to make informed decisions/conclusions about the direction things are trending.

Sorry man, didn't mean to put a damper on your crying over the 15th ranked recruiting class in the nation. Go for it if you want to.

Maybe you can head over to a Clemson message board and let them know that they should be bummed out about the HORRIBLE shape of their program.

I mean they really suck at this recruiting thing.

2013: 15 Clemson
2014: 16 Clemson
2015: 9 Clemson
2016: 11 Clemson
2017: 16 Clemson

You may have heard of this team - they have been in the playoffs the last three years and won it all for the 2016 season.

In 2015 they lost to Bama 45-40 in the championship game

In 2016:
They played 3 SEC teams winning all three games.
Auburn
South Carolina 56-7
#1 Alabama

In addition to wins over:
#3 Louisville
#12 Florida State
#23 Virginia Tech
#3 Ohio State
#1 Alabama

In 2017:
they again played 3 SEC teams going 2-1:
SEC West champion Auburn #12 Auburn W 14-6
#24 South Carolina W 34-10
National Champion Alabama L 24-6

In addition to wins over:
#14 Louisville
#12 Virginia Tech
#20 NC State
#7 Miami

We added a lot of depth and talent to the front 7 on defense and the offensive line. The places where we needed to bridge the gap to compete with Alabama and Georgia

With the additions of the Texas Tech transfers that will be eligible this season there is reason to be optimistic.

The defensive front 7 haul plus Fehoko and Shelvin will make this one of the strongest front 7 units that LSU has had in years. It could rival the 2011 squad.
