if Hampton signs his LOI next Wednsday, BUT we don't do the paperwork for the Aid, and then he goes to play baseball, would he still count against this class?

there was a big discussion a couple of weeks ago, and there were some posters who really got deep into it, because it is complicated. this is what I got out of it, that they won't count unless you do the paperwork for them to get their scholarship money.

needless to say, we'd love to have this kid.

I think, and could be wrong.. he means if he goes and plays MLB baseball..

Could LSU somehow get that spot back for next season's class..

Common sense makes this a legit option, but MH has to be onboard with it! Cause if you don’t officially file his paperwork, then he hasn’t officially signed his LOI.

I could be wrong, but I think once the paper work is submitted he counts as a signed member of the class regardless if he actually enrolls in school or not.

ETA: so yes, I believe they could hold off on submitting his papers

ETA2: Problem is I think the papers have to be submitted by April 1 & the MLB draft isn't til June

You're right. I don't know how I misread that. Thank you.

There may be a deadline for that letter to be binding, but nothing stops us from awarding a scholarship to a walk-on at anytime. So in reality, if MH is ok with it, you could wait until he decides he is coming to LSU before making it official.

This approach means that he is not formally committed to LSU and any team can continue to recruit him. The only way to bind him to LSU and LSU to him without risk of losing a ship is to sign him to a baseball LOI. But he cannot show up until fall camp which is after all the draft stuff. At that point he would he would immediately count against football and never be on baseball scholarship. Of course we would have to save one of our 25 to do this.

Hopefully our pathetic compliance department is working for us and not against us. It is time to walk the gray line like Alabama.
