Closer Look: LSU's lowest-ranked signees over 10 years
There’s been plenty of five-star prospects that have headlined the classes over the past decade, and their ups and downs have been well-documented.
Here’s a deeper dive into the lowest-rated recruit in each LSU signing class from 2008-2017. We’ve taken out the special teams signees, which includes kickers, punter and long snappers. We also put the focus on high school prospects.
2017: Justin Jefferson
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 308 WR, No. 2,164 overall prospect, No. 76 in Louisiana
2016: Lloyd Cushenberry
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 82 OG, No. 1,522 overall prospect, No. 71 in Louisiana
2015: Foster Moreau
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 74 TE, No. 1,984 overall prospect, No. 86 in Louisiana
(Oakland Raiders 4th round pick in NFL draft. Finished his rookie season with 21 catches for 174 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games played (seven starts) He was placed on Injured reserve on December 9, 2019 after suffering a knee injury) PFF NFL All-Rookie Team (2019)
2014: Russell Gage
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 74 ATH, No. 898 overall prospect, No. 32 in Louisiana
(Gage was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Two year stats 55 receptions 509 yards 9.3 average 1 TD 4 rushing 12 yards) 49 of his 55 receptions came in the 2019 season.
2013: Duke Riley
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 42 OLB, No. 539 overall prospect, No. 22 in Louisiana
(3rd round pick of the Atlanta Falcons, currently with the Philadelphia Eagles.
2012: Kavahra Holmes
Holmes took a redshirt in 2012 before appearing in one game during the 2013 season. In March 2014, Holmes announced he was transferring out of LSU.
** A side note, the second-lowest ranked recruit in LSU’s class that year was Jalen Mills, who went on to start immediately as a true freshman at LSU and was a starter in the secondary for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles this past year.
2011: Ronald Martin
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 43 CB, No. 624 overall prospect, No. 24 in Louisiana
(signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent following the 2015 NFL Draft. He’s since spent time in the NFL with the Seahawks, the New York Jets, the Baltimore Ravens and two stints with the Indianapolis Colts.)
2010: Alfred Blue
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 66 RB, No. 758 overall prospect, No. 19 in Louisiana
(In 2014 was a sixth round NFL Draft selection by the Houston Texans. Was with the Texans 2014 - 2018. Was on the Jacksonville Jaguars' roster in 2019 - released in Oct.
2009: Josh Williford
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 76 OG, No. 1,066 overall prospect, No. 34 in Alabama
(Suffering a concussion in the Florida game that ended his season. He suffered another concussion in camp ahead of his senior season, which then forced him to call off his football career. He served out his final year on campus as a student coach for the Tigers in 2013.)
2008: Lavar Edwards
247Sports Composite Rankings: No. 52 SDE, No. 959 overall prospect, No. 32 in Louisiana
(He was a fifth round pick in the NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, and he has since spent time with eight different NFL teams. Edwards is currently a free agent.)
Not too bad. Assuming Justin Jefferson and Lloyd Cushenberry make NFL rosters and counting Jalen Mills who was the lowest rated in his class to not leave the team - that is 9 of 10 of the lowest rated players to spend time in the NFL.
Moving forward it will be 7 of 10 as Lavar Edwards will drop off and Dantrieze Scott, who was the lowest in the 2018 class, has left the team. Damien Lewis is the lowest rated player from 2018 still on the team. He was the 3rd lowest above Dantrieze and Tae Provens.

There's rumors that he is still jumping on top of tables and partying at Mike's in Tigerland

Yep, you are correct, he wouldn't count. Probably wouldn't have counted anyway because Scott, even though he left, was the lowest rated player from that class.

This shows what a great job of finding diamonds in the rough LSU has done. While I realize 5 stars are certainly more likely percentage wise to be successful, not all kids get properly evaluated by the services.

I can't get over one of the Guillory articles that was posted during the all-star game practices.
The 24/7 guy was raving about him and then said that this was the first time anyone from 24/7 had laid eyes on him in person.

??? Not sure what this is about.
I don't remember anything at all about Kavahra Holmes.

I never knew this.
That 2009 class was totally overrated. # 1 in the country with four 5* guys that had 2* and 3* careers. One guy ended up at Tulane

It means he used to party hard as frick with Odell and Duke Riley in Tigerland. Like that is all that dude cared about at LSU

That is not what it said. The article is 3 national analysts talking about Guillory, and the guy says "“He’s another one that I am not sure any of us had seen him in person at all prior to this event," Simmons said.
The 3 of them, not every person that works for 247.

By the way, my son who is a rapid eagles fan told me duke Riley was selected as a team captain fir next year for the Eagles as a special teams standout etc. They are very happy with him

My bad, couldn't remember the exact words used.
I do remember he said they really liked Guillory's profile. His 24/7 profile that they created.

LSU seems to find that diamond in the rough from Louisiana.

But what’s the point of this thread? Not all athletes have to be 5 stars to succeed? No shite.

I wanted to clarify your post serves no purpose or message. Just a regurgitation of someone else’s outdated work.
