The LSU women's basketball team missed out on one of its top targets in the 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Joyce Edwards, the No. 2 high school senior in the country according to ESPN, pledged her talents to South Carolina, choosing the Gamecocks over LSU and Clemson.

Edwards is a 6-foot-2 forward from South Carolina. In July, she helped a USA Basketball squad win the gold medal at the U19 FIBA World Cup in Spain, where she became just the fifth U.S. player since 2011 to earn a spot on the tournament's All-Star Five team at age 17 or younger.

If they’ve missed on everyone so far with two chances left (Strong and Cambridge)

Edwards is literally right in USCe backyard. It was a long shot getting her

So is UHIGH to us, but I always feel it’s a long shot for us to get a player from there for any sport

She lives 20 minutes from the campus…

The class always came down to strong and Cambridge

Yep I agree. I live in Charleston SC and knew we didn’t have a shot at her. I will say this though if we miss on Strong and Cambridge I will be disappointed with Redus. He gets all the praise but would deserve the criticism if we just sign the kid from LA. We can’t afford to fall farther behind SC.

I still think it’s insane we slow played Shaq’s daughter. He would have carried the NIL momentum we have

She was definitely a take. I am not sure if we did or did not slow play her. Maybe she wanted to make her own path and thought she could do it at Florida with more playing time. I don’t know and will never know if we did or did not but she could have been an asset at LSU., In my opinion it is just another miss this recruiting cycle.

She stayed home just like you would expect a Top Louisiana recruit to do at LSU. Easy decision for her.

Something strange is really brewing with this WB program lately. All of a sudden we might whiff on all 4 prospects we wanted. Is Mulkey losing control of the program
