ESPNHS North Carolina - Stock is rising for Houston, JacksonStock is rising for Houston, Jackson
September, 2, 2011
Sep 212:17PM ETEmailPrintCommentsBy Brandon ParkerIn this week's edition of All-State Stock Watch, we're looking at All-State football players who saw their potential value rise or fall over the past week. A player could have performed well in a game, gotten a big-time scholarship offer, broken his leg or just had an off game. (Hey, it happens to the best of us.)
Here are the movers and shakers from week two:

UP — Steve Houston, Richmond RB/DB
Houston made his mark at the DB spot last season for Richmond, but it's from the tailback position that the senior is busting loose in 2011. The senior needed just seven carries to rack up 238 yards and three touchdowns in the Raiders' 44-7 win against Lee County.

DOWN — Alex McCalister, West Forsyth DL
When McCalister transferred from R.J. Reynolds this past summer, it appeared West Forsyth had gotten the jewel it needed to make its defense go. But the Titans' defensive unit has struggled in its first two games, surrendering 41 points in losses to East Forsyth and Carver. Last week against Carver, the Titans saw a 10-point, second-quarter lead disappear into a 17-13 loss. The good news, though, is that with a stud like McCalister, who has drawn several D-1 offers, West Forsyth has the tools to turn things around.

UP — Desmond Jackson, West Rowan RB
After overcoming the shock of losing its first game in 47 contests during the season opener against Mooresville, Jackson and West Rowan bounced back last week. The junior tailback scored three touchdowns to help the Falcons rally for a 45-32 win against Davie. Production like this is what the Falcons need to start up another lengthy win streak and win its fourth straight 3A title.

Derrick Henry update. Gainsville, (Gator Sports)

quote:

“Oh yeah, I’m still considering them,” he said. “They’ve been recruiting me since the ninth grade. I’m a fan of the Gators, always wanted to play for them.

“I’m committed, but my options are still open. You only get this chance once. I’m going to take advantage of it.”

Henry said he will be at the Florida-Alabama game for an unofficial visit on Oct. 1 and plans to take in a Georgia game this season as well. He tried to explain where his heart and his head are, with Florida and Georgia on his mind.

This kid is ether messing around or confused:

quote:

“Yeah, I’m a Gator fan,” he said. “Been a Gator fan since I was young. Nothing changed with Florida, I just committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. I’m still a Gator fan, still going to root for them. I just committed to another team.”

quote:

“I’m committed, so it’s calmed down a little bit,” Henry said. “Schools are still calling. My options are still open.

Georgia fans are in for a long couple of years with this guy.

Sounds a lot like Avery Johnson's situation except for the fact that LSU is doing well and God only knows what Georgia and to some extent, Florida is going to do.

Keep up the good work Wolverine

You guys should be recruiting former New Orleans native Tyren Jones. I think his dad played at Grambling State, Tyronne Jones, in the early-mid 1990s.

Tyren Jones, class of 2013 RB at Walton High School in Marietta, GA.

I’ve attended Walton’s last 2 games and the kid has left both games after 2.5 quarters of play [left in the mid 3rd quarter of each] due to Walton having big leads and he’s had in excess of 200 yards in both and 200 yards in 3 of Walton’s 4 games played thus far. This past Friday he had 279 yards on 21 carries. He also had runs of 66, 7, 27 and 60 yards called back during the game…..If those penalized runs had counted he would have had 439 yards on 25 carries in 2.5 quarters.

Check the run at the 4:33 in the linked video 2-3 times…..SICK

4:33 (watch 2-3 times…especially the move at 4:36-4:40 on #22 & #3…..Moves are SICK)
5:15 (worth a 2nd look)

Unfortunately, his last 64 yard TD…..which was his best run of the night…it was crazy…is not shown.

Couple of videos of the aforementioned Tyren Jones back in 2007 as a 7th grader. He was a local ATL Metro "legend" having scored 47 TDs in leading his team to an undefeated season and local Metro Age-Group Championship.

Sick runs for a kid that was 12-13 yrs old in these videos. He's a BEAST!

Bama and UGA are showing interest now he has more than 750 yards after his 1st 4 games this 2011 season including 200 plus yards in 3 of 4 games.

Katy DB Kyle Fulks By Ahmard Vital

Scout.com/FOX Sports is in the streets bringing you all of the coverage. At the Katy/Alief Taylor game, we caught up with defensive back Kyle Fulks, who played both ways and was big in the 31-0 win. Check out this Scout.com update and see what he had to say about his performance and what programs are seeking his services him.

For the two-way, two-sport star, there are multiple opportunities to find a place to land on the next level. For Katy (TX) defensive back Kyle Fulks that is the case.

A summer track guy who is also tearing it up on the gridiron.

In the Tigers most recent game against Alief Taylor, the 5-foot-8, 155-pound Fulks made plenty of plays in the 31-0 victory Friday night.

“I felt pretty good. I made a few mistakes, but in the end I bounced back,” Fulks said. “I played both ways and that can get a little tiring. But I feel all right about my game.”

Not a lot that went wrong defensively for the Tigers as they held Taylor to 79 total yards of offense. Unofficially, Fulks was in on about five tackles on the night. He was also great in pass coverage as his opponent rarely threw his direction.

This play, and his speed on the track, has already gotten the class of 2013 athlete Fulks some early attention in the realm of Division I recruiting. But, like said previously, his dual-sport capabilities could bolster his cause in getting to the next level. Acouple of SEC schools are already in contact.

“I just started hearing from Arkansas and I got a letter from Alabama

great list..

i think that Ricky Seals-Jones would be a huge addition, that size is just unmatched..
but if we don't get him, thats alright, because did anyone else notice the large number of big bodied receivers on that list? great sign

The above referenced 2013 RB is currently leading the Georgia Statewide Player of the Race at the 1/2 point of the season with Bama commit Kenyan Drake in 2nd. Probable 2013 overall #1 player Robert Nkemdiche has been in/out of the top 10 list so far this season.

LINK

Jones is also 1 of 7 11th graders nationwide, along with Robert Nkemdiche that are currently being considered for the MaxPreps National Junior of the Year.

Kendell Beckwith told Shea Dixon LSU is now recruiting him as a defensive end instead of at quarterback.

He wants to play defense and they want him there after viewing his game film from this season.

I could easily see this. I worked their game last year vs Capitol and looked forward to seeing him again this year after that game. I worked their game about a month ago vs Salmen and he really made more plays on the D side of the ball. I could easily see this kid making a much quicker impact at the SEC on D, especially if he were to focus on that side of the ball. He was in the backfield a good bit against a 4A semifinal team that ended up losing to the eventual state champs. His performance at DE was very impressive considering he was the startin qb. I've got their game this week against GOHS, looking forward to see his progression

Also, I had the Redemptorist game against White Castle beginning of year. #5, whom I think is on this thread was pretty impressive. Thought the coach did a pretty poor job that game of getting the ball into his hands considering his playmaking abilities.

One of the best qb performances I've seen this season was from the JR QB from Ascension Catholic, and I've worked a St Michael game and got to see Duncan up close. The ACHS qb made some impressive throws and thought he looked like a better all around qb than the two games I've seen Beckwith. Just my observations from games I've worked the past few seasons regarding players in this thread

ETA: Gage is the player I was referring to from RHS. Beckwith weight must be old info b/c he is THICK. built way more like a college DE than QB
