LSU in contact with JK Johnson

According to Shea:
“At this point it’s about the evaluation stage. He had to rehab through some stuff as a freshman in 2021, then started five games this year as a starter year 2, but wasn’t in that first-team group at the end of the year. One thing I picked up is he is a guy who has some really good speed at the position. Would also have three more years of eligibility.”
-He was the #3 ranked CB according to 247 in 2021 class.

He's from St.Louis DeSmet, so I'm sure this is a Steeples connection because he was the HC there from 2016-2020.
Same HS as Mekhi Wingo and current TE commit Mac Markaway.

We need all the depth me can get plus he was teammate of Banks

Please. We need depth BAD at CB. Yall think we get a starting linebacker from the portal now Tolan is gone?

I think so we need player with D1 playing experience more than HS LB.

A poster on the Ohio St board said he wanted to transfer to LSU last season.

Not only is he depth, he’s a hell of a player. Top 50 overall in his class regardless of position. He’s got good length too.

Makes sense because LSU really needed transfer guys in the last cycle and Steeples probably came in and contacted all the guys he could to come on board.

Does he know any LBs? That would be nice as well.

Interestingly enough, we have a walkon linebacker from DeSmet on the team right now. His name is Seth Marcione and he's a true freshman.
LSU bio
This isn't exactly a big deal, but it does show that we have a pretty wide open pipeline from there to here. So yeah, I wouldn't bet against this kid transferring.
But we're gonna need more than walkon linebackers. We're gonna need some portal help. And honestly, LB is a vast wasteland in the portal right now.
EDIT: Found Marcione's HUDL film.
It's actually pretty good. He's got some size and he's pretty athletic for a walkon. Got 3-4 Division 1 offers too.
I wonder if they think he's good enough to give us a little depth there and that's why they haven't been hitting it too hard at LB.

Don't really see any in the portal right now, but someone could enter it before the window closes with eyes toward LSU.

2 posters on twitter from St Louis, have commented under post of him transferring and said he’s going to LSU. DeSmet became a powerhouse program in St Louis under Steeples after being in the gutter before him and have fallen off since he’s left. Mekhi Wingo, Mac Markway, and JK Johnson. Pretty good pipeline. St Louis has got some great athletes.

How did he perform at Ohio state?

He’s alright but dude has insane talent and could make for a good CB2 for us

At this point he has high potential like Harris. Not sure why he didn't play more this year. Guessing he just got passed up seeing as he's only a RS Freshman. This is the type of guy you go for to compliment Harris/Alexander. Has big talent potential to be a starter. Going to be a hard sell to get someone like a Cypress over here when he went to FSU when the CB room is getting packed now.
Not sure what will happen with Banks but right now he's still on the roster so that's another potential starter if he's 100% healthy.
I was hoping for someone with a little more experience but this is good too. Main issue with our CBs next year will be experience. Tons of talent but lack of experience. May be sloppy early on. I hope not.

Started 5 games this year. Played the 2nd most snaps of all their CBs. Super athletic guy fast and twitchy. Was highly touted. Struggled at times particularly in the Penn State game this year but he’s got a high upside and a lot of tools.

I think unless he was processed out for something non-football related, they really need to try to get Tolan to stay. Get Morris Bart or Dudley & Debossier on it.
