I think maybe DD is referring to the fact that Kiya will get more opportunities earlier in her career than Sarah since Sarah mainly competed bars and beam early on in her career at LSU. She competed vault and floor much later her freshman year. Also, Kiya has a much tougher vault, which means a higher scoring potential.

I’m really excited to watch 101 this Friday.

Smith will be out for a while

Ferrer is working hard but we got a lot of depth. Alyona being ahead of schedule helps us on bars. We will have 3 true freshmen in that lineup.

Gunter will probably see floor early this year if she continues to do well in practice. Her tumbling is upgraded. Kai reggravated her previous injury. We are going to go slow with her on the power events but she will be in our bars lineup from the get go. Likely won’t be on floor till mid season at least. Would rather be safe and have her to end the year than to set her back early during the season.

I think we see Kamryn Ryan early as well.

Kai will likely get some looks on beam as well early too.

The lineups will be mixed early as we work in new faces and rehab a few kids. I’m fine going slow early to ensure we have the best and healthiest lineup to end the year.

With the coaches slowly easing Kai into the season, do your think it’s possible to have six 10.0 start value vaults by March (or earlier for consistency)? Right now I see four with Edney, Johnson, Edwards, and Harrold. I know Rivers, Ryan, and Ferrer are each capable of a 10.0 sv. I think having 6 is huge for LSUs title shot.

I think Ryan has a pretty nice full. I think it be better at this point for her to stay with that instead of the inconsistent 1 1/2 at this time. 5/6 routines being a 10.0 is plenty good enough to be competitive on vault for a national title. No point in throwing a vault out there that isn't reliable and built in with deductions. A stuck clean full can still score nicely.

We are not having 6 10.0 vaults by March. If Ferrer gets into the lineup that puts us at 5. I don't Kai throws a 10.0 vault the first meet she comes back to off of injury. They likely just do a basic full and work her back up.

Alyona can do a 1 1/2 but I suspect they stick to bars and beam early with her on. They think she could potentially expand her role towards the end of the year but I am not betting on that quite yet right now.

Sami Durante is vaulting so we will see what happens with that. At this point right now, the goal is to work Desiderio, Ferrer, Kai, and alyona back to where they can be.

Has Desiderio had another injury setback or is she just a slow recover-er? Last I heard, her and Reagan Campbell had surgery at the same time, but Reagan is looking fab. Getting Desiderio in the 9.9 range on floor would be so good.

On a different note, I would also love to see Olivia Gunter on floor particularly in the early season. Hoping Bridget Dean still has her spot in the beam lineup too.

Happy we seem to have a lot of depth on floor and bars this year. Both looking harder to crack than the UCLA floor lineup!

I am living for the videos LSU Gym posted on Instagram. I am so excited for bars and floor. But I am worried about Alyona. She looks great so far on bars but I’m worried about her moving too fast. I am so excited to see the full floor routines. I love the little bit of choreography we see of Kai and Reagan.

Alyona is way ahead of schedule. Her original injury was not as severe as what It seemed like. She has rehabbed extremely well at LSU. They aren't going to go over board with her. It is our hope she is ready on bars within the first 2 meets. She will focus on bars primarily right now but we hope to slowly work her on other events as the season progresses. I highly doubt she does any floor at all. Main focus for this season was to get her ready on bars and beam.

If LSU can get and keep Kai healthy that changes the complexion of this team a lot. She is a game changer on the power events, as well as bars.

Edney and Kiya are your all arounders. Hope to upgrade Kiya's bar routine at some point. We will be really really good but just have to get a few kids healthy and up to speed again. Tonight will be a good chance to get the other freshmen and back ups some opportunities to make a case for themselves. A few of the walk on's have been pushing for lineup spots...

I always wondered how severe Alyona’s injury was. I know Toni Anne Williams at Cal came back relatively fast but McKenna Kelley and Kennedy Baker seemed to take a while longer. Baker’s was a season (and career) ending injury since she was a senior and her injury happened so late in the season. I watched her progress on social media and she seemed to have had a complete rupture. Courtney Kupets also tore her Achilles twice but came back within 9-10 months each time. I know Alicia Sacramone suffered from an Achilles tear in late 2011 and competed at Olympic Trials in 2012. So I guess it depends on the gymnast and severity of the injury.

But I am so happy that Alyona is ahead of schedule. I know she wants to contribute to the team this year. Having her in the bars lineup is huge.

I was impressed with Alyona's composition and execution of her bars routine. Looks like Jay has used that kind of whippy technique on the double layout he used with both Lexie and Sarah - I know some people don't prefer it, but it's scored 10s regardless.

My biggest question mark with her was that dismount, and it's looking solid so far. This is going to be a fun team to watch.

Its best this way. Her height kinda limits what she can do for a dismount. This technique gives her a chance to at least whip it completely around with her chest up.

Saw on twitter that Bailey has pneumonia so can’t imagine we’ll see her tonight. Prayers for quick recovery!

I am so excited for the season following 101! I totally did not expect a DLO from Sarah Edwards on floor. It’s so easy for her. It was also nice to see D’Antonio on vault and beam. The leaps look better on beam and floor for Desiderio. Hoping everyone stays healthy.

We were extremely limited tonight without Ruby (vault and floor), Kai (vault and floor), Ryan (Vault), Ferrer (Vault, bars and floor), and Alyona (bars). So things will look dramatically different come season time.

Edwards will be hard to keep out the floor lineup. She is really improved here. She has been training that DLO for a while now. Its been in progress since last fall.

Kiya has been sticking double's on vault in practice that could go for 10's. Having her lead off bars and moving Sami Durante down will help with the scores IMO.

We are going to be really really good once we get those other kids healthy again. The pieces are in place for a big run, just. need to let the younger kids get experience.

I think Ryan must be dealing with something that held her out last night. I enjoyed her beam from the intrasquad I went to, and I’m sure we would have at least seen her full.

I was very confused by the bar lineup order. That can’t be with what we are going with, right? Leading off with Kiya, and Ruby as the anchor doesn’t make any sense at all to me.

I was wondering the same thing about the bar lineup. I don’t think Ruby is the best choice.

I saw a brace on Ryan’s right arm on the tv telecast. You had to look hard to see it because she had her jacket on. Maybe she has an arm or wrist injury.

As far as the bars lineup, I definitely do not think Harrold will be the anchor. It will either be Alyona or Kai. I think they keep Ruby in the second or third spot due to the built in deductions in her routine. I’m okay with Kiya being the lead off because she has the weaker bars right now. I think the final lineup will be Kiya, Ruby, Sami, Kennedi, Kai, and Alyona. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the final bars order to end the season.

Ruby's routine is not consistent or clean enough to be the anchor for bars. She really needs to be in 2 spot in the lineup. She has a nice routine but it needs to stick towards the front of the lineup.

Kiya is super clean on bars but is working to get a release in there. Her hand stands are all perfect, as is her double layout. Once she adds a release, she is going to get killer bars scores. I think her leading off is good so we can move Durante down the lineup for better scores.

I heard they want Alyona to eventually anchor bars but it depends on how she progresses with her dismount. The lineup will feature Kiya, Kai, Ruby, Edney, Alyona, Durante but the order of it will be a work in progress early as Kai and Alyona progress. This is the event that we seem to miss the seniors the most early. Priessman and Finnegan were 9.9+ every weekend on this event. Dean is not a viable option on bars, so hopefully if we need to go to our depth early, we can use Ferrer.
