Some highlights from NSD which are always fun to see!

Expect big things from this class, it’s a great one.

I saw that Shilese Jones did not sign with Florida today which was unexpected. Does anyone know if she is deferring or has flipped to another school?

Was wondering the same thing. Haven’t heard anything yet. She still has time to do the paperwork but pretty much everyone else did their paperwork today. It’s odd...

One of Florida’s 2021 kids is coming in early but that might be because Hurd isn’t coming until fall of 2021. She deferred another year!

I think Jones is deferring another year to take a break after making an Olympic push. At least that’s what I’ve been reading on social media.

Has anyone been able to attend any of the intrasquads? Just saw an interview on YouTube where DD talks about how banged up the freshman class came in. I knew Alyona (Achilles), Kai (foot or ankle), and Caitlin just had some kind of surgery, but I wasn’t sure about the rest.

I went to one a month ago. In addition to Alyona, Smith, and Kai being injured, Ferrer is apparently dealing with some type of injury. She was held out of everything. Christina was also limited to a quick run through on beam, but she just posted she’s tumbling again. As far as the other freshman go, Kiya competed AA. Goodrich competed a beam and floor routine, and Ryan competed VT, BB, and FX.

Thanks for the update. I didn’t know Bailey was battling an injury. From the video updates on Instagram and Twitter, it looks like Kiya is doing a lot of the lifting. She’s my pick for freshman of the year.

The team looks strong right now. The freshmen will be heavy contributors but we likely work some of them in slowly.

Kiya will be competing in the all around day one. She is going to be a fan favorite quickly. She has 9.9+ routines on vault, beam and floor. She is still cleaning up bars but will be strong here too. She is definitely capable of winning SEC freshmen of the year with what she bring to the table.

Kai was limited when she got to LSU but has been doing a lot more lately. She wears a boot around campus for precautionary reasons. She is expected to be in the starting vault, bars and floor lineups. They may go slow with her to start the year.

Kamryn Ryan will get a lot of opportunities in the starting vault lineup. She gives us some good depth on floor. Big vaulter. She has trained a 1 1/2.

Ferrer has a long way to go. Injuries have held her back unfortunately.

Alyona is starting to get much more healthy and is doing more on bars right now. She is ahead of schedule which is good news.

Ruby and Edney look as good as ever. They have certainly stepped up their game. Ruby continues to clean up with each offseason. Her development has been remarkable.

Desiderio has just started tumbling again. Her beam is fine. Just has to get in shape for floor.

Durante, Edwards and Campbell have been great this fall. Durante looks more confident on beam and has improved her leaps. Edwards vault has been more consistent so far. She will be in the floor lineup at some point. Campbell had had many beam routines in practice that were flawless, I predict she gets a 10 this year on beam.

I see no reason why they can’t get back to four on the floor. Just have to pace ourselves through a few injuries. Let that youth develop and come into their own. A lot of people have major doubts since we lost that big senior class which has carried the load for a while but I think this team surprises a lot of people.

I don’t know how many of you listen to McKenna Kelley and Taylor Davis on their new Bleav podcast. On today’s episode McKenna talked a little bit about Emma’s decision to go to Arkansas. Seems like it was mostly injuries, and it probably will benefit her to be at a smaller school. That way she won’t be compared to McKenna and all her success at LSU. It seems like there will be less pressure on her... which is good for Emma.

They also discussed NCAA judging bias. Olivia Karas (former Michigan gymnast) was a guest. It was very interesting to see per point of view on judging bias. I think it’s worth it to listen to.

Initial rankings of the 2020 recruiting classes has been released

1. UCLA
2. LSU
3. Oregon State
4. Denver
5. California
6. Utah
7. Florida
8. Michigan
9. Oklahoma
10. Auburn

No. 2 LSU

Official: Elena Arenas, Haleigh Bryant, Olivia Dunne

Not Yet Official: Sierra Ballard, Chase Brock, Maddie Rau

It seems like we’ve been waiting about 10 years for Bryant to be of college age, and the time is finally almost here. Rejoice! Bryant already boasts lineup ready routines, if not lineup anchoring routines, on each event and is poised to be one of the Tiger greats during her four years in Baton Rouge. Add onto that two former elites in Arenas and Dunne and you have yet another strong class for LSU that, as of yet, isn’t even pulling from a future year to round out its prospects.

Not sure why someone downvoted my post. I was just curious if Olivia could find herself somewhere in the lineups this year?

Olivia has done some very good things but is likely not going to be much of a big everyday contributor with the big freshmen class ahead in a few areas on the depth chart. I could see her getting some opportunities on floor as she has some potential here. She has given us some more bars depth. She has actually developed a lot here. Wouldn’t shock me to see her get a few different shots this year, especially if we are rehabbing some kids on floor.

I would like to see LSU actually take advantage and actually utilize exhibition routines when they can this year. Made no sense why they didn’t attempt to much last year. It’s valuable opportunities to get kids experience in a live competition setting.

Btw LSU just released Campbell’s beam routine on instagram. Expecting a big year from her.... her dismount has been much more steady this fall.

I really like Gunter as a person and I would love to see her get some opportunities to contribute this year.

Also, Campbell’s beam does look better. Her dismount was what held her back from the 9.9-9.925 range consistently. With her being the anchor I expect bigger scores from her.

Thank you! I wasn’t expecting her in every meet but maybe in some non conference meets or like you said, some rest up spots. I was thinking she could kinda replace what Kirby would have done this year. I did see Campbell’s beam! I’m super excited for this year. Less than a month and a half to go! Squealing!

Don’t forget about Gymnastics 101 next Friday. So we’re less than two weeks away. That should calm our anxiousness until January.

I thought one big reason we don’t see many exhibition routines is because almost every meet is televised these days and they are on a stricter time schedule. I heard it just wasn’t allowing time for an extra routine and this was true for lots of teams.

Yes, DD and Jay have both mentioned in interviews that tv time restraints have sort of killed the chance for exhibition routines. Kinda sucks for the gymnasts who actually need the experience.

D-D Breaux on Kiya Johnson, a freshman all-arounder:

“We feel like Kiya Johnson is going to come out of the chute doing all-around. She's tiny, she's fit, she's on top of her gymnastics. She could be as decorated, if not more so, than Sarah Finnegan:"

Not sure how it would be possible to be more decorated than Finnegan but I fully expect Kiya to be big her freshmen year with a chance to rack up a lot of awards. Sarah didn't really get into the all around until her sophomore year. I guess if she can stay healthy I see no reason why she couldn't rack up all those titles.

Alyona is expected to be competing much sooner than later as well.

Kai will be paced early on. She will be in the bars lineup but will be smart with her on the power events. Likely see some different plug in combinations early this season as she rehabs.

Few other kids are going to be paced early on coming back from injuries.
