Steve Robertson of Scout has a subscription article up today saying Kendell Beckwith "seemed to have trouble getting to the spots" when covering guys running routes in the flats.
Said "was never quite quick enough to break up the play".
Said after observing Chavis spending a lot of time working with him Beckwith "needs to play with his hand on the ground at defensive end"
These are just a Scout writer's opinions but that's kind of what some here have been saying about taking him over other guys at LB as compared to DE.
This is not the first time LSU has had this situation with DE's that want to play LB. These guys want to be the next Brian Orakpo or DeMarcus Ware because they're starting outside linebackers in the Pro Bowl. They see them get drafted in the first round and making big money when they re-sign.
What they don't see is both guys played defensive end in college. College and pro are two different games. If playing DE in college helped these guys develop into the best OLB's in the NFL, you'd think they'd want to go that route.

2014 Devin Voorhies 6'2" 185 Woodville,MS(Wilkinson County) is one of my 2014 guys who showed off at the LSU camp. Gerry Hamilton of 247 said he'll be one of the top recruits in Mississippi next year. Steve Robertson of Scout said he might get offered.
He plays QB for Wilkinson County but worked out with the WR's. Plays some safety & returns kicks too. I put him in with the athletes in the 2014 thread.

Sonny had some comments very similar to Robertson's about Beckwith and LB. I'm one that has argued against him and LB and this only will strengthen that argument. He's not a 4-3 LB.

we will have plenty of room as long as we can take 26. we will be able to make a spot for a goodman or adams type talent
So we likely don't have ten spots left to fill. We likely have about twelve.

Hey, I'm not rooting in the slightest for any of those things to happen. I'm just saying that there a number of things that can keep a commitment from actually arriving on campus, and it would be naive to expect that we won't lose one or two. If we only plan to get 10 more, then we likely don't sign 26. Everybody is making these lists now of the "last ten" that we get, and I'm saying that we'll probably take twelve and plan to lose two. That's all.

agree, he needs to be at DE but I'm not sure if our coaches will tell him that or not.
Looks like we are gonna be beating WRs away with a stick soon.

Yes, you were the poster to whom I referred. Didn't mention you by name because I know how sensitive some of our "Sign the Louisiana Boy First" posters are. Thought they might take it as you dissing him.
After he came out wanting to play LB you said he was no where near as good a take at LB as he was at DE. You weren't knocking him. You were just talking about his value at LB compared to DE.
I know you liked him at DE because you were talking him up there during the season last year. One of my 1st posts on the SEC Recruiting board was one asking about Beckwith. You told me he wasn't going to be recruited at QB but at DE. You then talked him up at DE.

B.J. Hammond, who just left the LSU camp, is set to commit. Andrew Bone, the Bama Scout writer, has an subscription article up today that infers he will choose Miss. State over LSU.
I doubt he has a commit-able offer, but the article reads like he came to the LSU camp, enjoyed it but will pick State over LSU. I don't even remember him being offered. Does anyone else?
Thought my Scout script ran out yesterday but I can still read everything over there. If I am no longer a member and can read it, is it pay site info?

It looks like a subscription only article.
Scout might give you a month or three of free access in order to get you to renew.
Hammond is a good looking athlete. But I just don't think LSU has the room to take him as a WR at this stage.

I don't think I'm the only one that feels this way, but assuming Gilmore, Pagano, Williams, and Prevot are in (which I know is a big assumption and you can't recruit that way, etc) then I'd just assume not make the push on Beckwith and let him go to Bama.

its like Mingo... he wanted to be an OLB(well at least thats where people projected him), he came to camp and had a very tough time covering Michael Ford in the flats, and thats when I think our coaches realized he was probably a rush end(and they were fine with that). That has more than paid off for both parties involved. Could Beckwith not be in the same boat?
Posted on 6/7/12 at 11:52 am to joechristoppher77
I doubt beckwith is the freak mingo is. Mingo runs with the DBs.
However, the problem is, Mingo didnt care about playing DE. Beckwith seems set on playing LB. If that's the case, he really is better off at Bama playing LB in the 3-4. Same as the LB from Bastrop last year, already forgot his name...

For the people who were Cord Sandberg fans, he is still coming to LSU this summer. Scout has a video interview with him. He says he's been talking with Coach Miles and he's excited about visiting LSU. Said his dad played for Florida but his mother and her dad are "Big LSU fans."
