No, a transfer from a four year school. And it's hypothetical. I don't have anyone in mind, but at last count there were more than 400 D1 transfers, closing in on 500.

That's what I thought he was talking about. That's why it sounded to me like he know of someone specific. Reading too much into it I guess, looking for some good news.

It would be really helpful for us this year if we didn't have to deal with the SEC not allowing graduate transfers. Bringing in a guy for one year and having the scholly open up right away would be very helpful with spreading out scholarships.

Yes, I'm wondering hom Missouri managed to get Alex Oriakhi.
Also, besides transfers, there are probably close to 100 players that have asked out of their letters of intent after a coaching change.
So, there is some talent out there to be had.

Oriakhi is not a graduate transfer. He's able to transfer without sitting out because UCONN is banned from post season play.

That's not the SEC rule. The SEC rule states that players have to have two or more years of eligibility remaining, meaning no one-year transfers.

Interesting tidbit. Lamont Roland's brother.

TeNale Roland will play at Utah State University next fall. The combo guard from New Albany, Ind. recently visited the Logan, Utah campus along with Wright State University.
Roland started off his college career at Vincennes University back in 2009-2010. Roland's older brother Lamont played at Ball State University / Barton County Community College (KS) and LSU.
Roland averaged 20.6 points, 4.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds this season for the Warriors in Ina, Ill. Roland connected on 40 percent (85-211) from 3-point range.

I think Missouri had a loophole because they don't officially join until June or July, so him joining the team before then allows Mizzou to circumvent the rule. I think I read that on twitter.

Yeah, I read that people were making that assumption, but I never saw it officially stated.
I have a hard time believing that is the case, though. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis in July, so that would be when the issue would arise and they will be in the SEC at that point.
There is some kind of waiver process for one-year transfers, so perhaps they got a waiver. I know he was considering Kentucky, so I thought that was kind of odd.

You are not eligible in the SEC if you transfer with less than 2 years of eligibility left, however your new school can apply for a waiver if you meet anyone of a couple criteria:
1) You are enrolled in an academic track not offered at your previous school
2) Your sport was discontinued at your previous school
Hope this clears it up

Yes, I knew that. But that is also the NCAA graduate transfer rule. So, if the SEC was trying to make a rule against these one-year transfers, they did a poor job of it by duplicating the exisiting NCAA rule.

Does the NCAA rule involve a waiver?
Guess it was all a bunch of PR after Masoli, but I suppose Slive could still deny the waiver. Probably highly unlikely since two SEC schools felt good enough he would help right away they went after him.

All transfers have to be released by the original school.

Yes I know, was thinking a waiver to allow eligibility. Was wondering if there was any difference in NCAA and SEC rule at all.

Coleman is rated 8th best juco in the country JJ lands him that would be great!!!!

I think the NCAA is automatic if the original school releases them, but the SEC requires them to apply for a waiver. I haven't read up on it in detail, this is just my understanding of the rule from what I have seen.
