Norvel Pelle is visiting San Diego State soon. Don't have a date. It is the only confirmed official visit that I could verify. He had one a few weeks ago to Iowa State, but canceled it. I haven't confirmed if or when he will visit LSU.

What's his deal with visiting these smaller schools? How much baggage is he carrying?

I would also like to clarify an issue regarding rankings of recruits. I have seen several posters, along with some media members (Guilbeau) recently discuss LSU's current recruiting class and use the term "unranked" in reference to the remaining recruits. I believe Guilbeau's specific terminology was "LSU is recruiting only unranked players."
First of all, that is incorrect, as Norvel Pelle is a 5-star player. Additionally, the star ranking system is not really valid when discussing junior college and international players. The correct terminology should really be unevaluated.
Shavon Coleman was a 3-star Rivals 150 player in high school, but has not been ranked on the star system since he was in junior college. He is, however, ranked as the No.8 junior college player in the country by JUCOjunction.com.
Shane Hammink was not even known to exist by Rivals or Scout until a few weeks ago. I believe he would be ranked at minimum a 3-star, and possibly a 4-star, if he played at a U.S. high school.
The star ranking system has a purpose and serves a role, and the websites generally do a good job with their evaluations, but regarding junior colleges, and especially international players, they are lacking.

What smaller schools?
San Diego St has fared well recently, but you can hardly call them a big basketball school.

They have been in the top two if not the best basketball program on the west coast the last two years. UCLA has declined dramatically (while their best players transfer to New Mexico or similar schools), USC is in the pits, Stanford mediocre with Cal doing okay. They have beaten Pac-10 schools and other risers like Long Beach St. They also put a player in the lottery last year and had the conference player of the year this season.

SDSU is regularly beating Pac 10 schools for recruits. They have an excellent recruiting class already for 2012. Pelle is from Southern Cal. Not surprising he would consider them.

LSU coaches are in attendance at the JUCO national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. Rivals posted a list of coaches there and LSU was on this list. It did not say who or how many coaches were there.
Orlando Sanchez got rave reviews, but the article said he would likely remain on the East coast and did not mention LSU.
I do no know specifically who they were scouting.

I wonder how much longer Steve Fisher stays at SDSU?

It's itching me to see who we sign to go with Malik. I know it's gone be some players that's gone play right away so I'm anxious. If we going the JUCO route I think we gone be a solid team next year.

Coleman and Hammink is my guess, and possibly one more.
We need an additional big man to help provide depth to Hamilton and JOB; Courtney and Ludwig will not be enough.
Maybe Del Piero will finally bust out?

I would like to see them sign at least 1 post player. I don't think they need two, if they sign Coleman, although it wouldn't hurt. His coach has said in interviews that he can play the 2-4 positions, at least for short periods of time.
His listed size of 6-6, 195 is about the same as high school and has probably never been updated. He definitely looks thicker than high school.

i think coleman can play the 4 in a pinch. don't know what our schedule looks like but there are usually plenty of teams with smaller frontcourts, even in conference.

Has Gathers signed a LOI to Baylor? Just curious.

I can't read whatever language people from Denmark speak, but according to the twitter that came up when I google'd Hammink's name, whatever he said when we offered in November required an exclamation point. I imagine that's a good thing.

I saw where someone said Hammink is a lock but can't find it now. Is this true?

He said he got an offer from LSU and already had two others.

I was listening to Jay Wright this AM talking about the length of Syracuse being a plus for them playing mostly zone. Hickey and Stringer are height challenged in this regard so we are at a disadvantage in zone when both are in.
If we can get Hammink and Coleman, it would give us two athletic 6'5" to 6'6" guys.
Any chance Hammink or Coleman can run the point? You usually see Europeans having better ball skills so I hope that is the case with Shane. Could we see a Hammink, Coleman, Turner, JOB and Hamilton lineup at some point during the season?
