Not sure if anyone checks this thread anymore, but was wondering if there was anything new on the basketball recruiting front?

I quit updating when they jacked it around and unstickied it. I will resume when it gets re-stickied. The recruiting board doesn't get enough basketball traffic and the threads cycle off the front page in like 5 minutes.

Otherwise, I posted this today.

Appreciate it, totally missed that post today because it had fallen off the front page. Wish they would just sticky this one again so there could be one thread people could post in.

If you want to bitch, start a new thread. This thread is for informative purposes only and not to debate.

I have removed Gathers and I am in the process of updating school lists, etc., of the other prospects. I quit updating this thread when it was unstickied, but will get it back up to speed today. Thanks.

Sorry, it's just another straw on the camel's back.

It certainly sucks, but doesn't change anything.

We will see who TJ is able to replace Gathers with. I have said numerous times that Gathers is a solid player that we need to sign, especially from a PR standpoint. But he is no program changer on the court. I think a top level junior college player would give much more immediate help next season.

I think he would have been a significant upgrade over 80% of the talent on our team. I thought JC players were a no-go because of APR? I guess that does show that he recognizes flaws in his "plan" and can adjust.

We definitely cannot lose Bridgewater in 2013.

I work with a parent of a starter on the Epsicopal team not named Bridgewater and they feel Brian is better than Ricardo.

Brian also has an offer from Baylor.

He is a very good player and one that LSU needed to sign. He is better than most of the players on the roster. That is not my point at all.

People were thinking of him as some kind of savior or a "make or break" type recruit, and I just never have seen him as that guy. If he would have signed with LSU, I would have expected him to average about 8 points/6 boards a game. Solid for a freshman, but not a game changer. Nothing wrong with that.

You are very misinformed on the APR and whatever supposed plan you are referring to. LSU has recruited junior college players every year that Trent Johnson has been here. They have not signed any for various reasons, but they have actively recruited probably a dozen. There is no change or adjustment.

I know what the APR does and how it has affected us. It's just another excuse that is often used. I shouldn't have injected it here. I tend to think the right jucos are actually good for APR. You just have to help them finish out.

Isn't Martin the more important recruit in the 2013 class?

Bubba glad this is back so we can have more consistant info since Trent keeps almost everything under wraps.

Martin is 2013, Gathers is 2012. Martin is the top player in Louisiana for 2013.

I was referencing the guy who said we can't lose Bridgewater in 2013 with the Martin comment. Just saying I think he is the one we can't lose if any next year.

I agree with your assessment 100%. Ricardo is a good high school player but in my opinion, will not be as good as Tasmin Mitchell when is college career is over. For one, Tasmin is much more skilled coming out of high school than Gathers. There is no way this kid can play Power Forward in the NBA and thus far, he doesn’t have the skills to play the small forward position. Nonetheless, in my opinion, LSU would do well to sign a couple of junior college players in order to augment the lost of Gathers. The nucleus (Hamilton, Hickey, O’Bryant and Turner) are already firmly entrenched. You add Morgan to the mix, along with Isaac, Stringer and a junior college small forward who can play the wing and I believe that next year, LSU will be part of the upper echelon of the SEC. I would love to see LSU sign a PF, SM or PG with size with the remaining scholarships available.

Shavon Coleman is very good. They play different positions. Coleman is a true SF, which is more of an immediate need. Overall, I would probably say Gathers is better, but not significantly.

If I could plug one of them into LSU's current line-up, I would probably pick Coleman.

So would u be happy with a Morgan, Coleman, Nate Guy & Sanchez class. Or can Trent surpass us with Pollard

I'm not sure LSU is in the picture for Sanchez any more -- I don't know if it's by his choice or LSU's. He doesn't seem to speak English very well, so I am sure he is being steered somewhere by his JUCO coaches or handlers. They all have Big East contacts, so I predict he lands somewhere like Providence or Georgetown. It's a fluid situation, so it could change.

I am very happy with Morgan, and would be extremely happy with Coleman. I have talked about him in several previous threads. I know LSU liked him out of high school, but he had grade issues.

LSU has not offered Nate Guy, and I doubt they would take both him and Coleman right now. If Guy gets a Washington offer, it will be hard to get him off the West Coast.

Pollard already has his visits scheduled, and LSU is not among them. If he's not visiting, I see no scenario in which he would sign with LSU. So he is really out of the conversation, unless something changes.

LSU is still talking to Troy Jones at Peabody, who is a 3/4. He's have a very good senior year and just recently shattered a backboard with a dunk.

I think there will be some new names come out in the near future.

A class of Morgan, Coleman, a JUCO post player and a back-up PG would be good.
