ive heard the argument that LA high schools produce the most D1 football recruits per capita, are there any numbers to prove the same in baseball? LA has seemed to be loaded over the last several years.

I think LSU has 8 players on Major League rosters on opening day. I'm sure there must be stats by State somewhere. I remember a few years back, SI had an issue dedicated to the demographics of players in the NFL. LA and MS absolutely kicked butt per capita.

I hope we over sign players this year....going up MLB is a cutthroat scenario...would tell ALL prospective signees that if we will take you but depending on how many sign or don't sign with MLB, we may have to let you go. Bet Manieri doesn't get caught with his pants down like last year

What will happen is big schools will now oversign and then cut players that don't pan out.

You will have to or you will end up with too much dead weight on roster

Exactly...I wonder when the official 35 man roster has to be finalized and reported to NCAA.

Is the academic trouble possibly why he didn't play Monday against Franklinton?

We signed about 16 kids for 6 spots that we know will be there for sure so you don't have to worry about that.

I've heard the same thing about Austin Southall. Very little chance of academically qualifying, but signed with LSU, if nothing else to create a little leverage to get MLB to pay him a little more money.

This team needs pitching as all of us know. I have a feeling that after what happened with the signees last year I think PM will go after JC pitchers early if one of those this year is drafted before the 10th rd.

The NCAA needs to make a rule that a player has until say July 31st to make a decision or a school can recend a signee's offer. Now that could be touchy because some of these players who play the school for a better offer from the pro team would sue the university. But damn, the university spends enough money pursueing these players and signing them to have them sign with a pro team the day of classes.

Then PM better have about 6 players lined up.. because thats how many signees will be drafted in the first 10 rounds..not all pitchers,
LSU is not the only school who loses players to the draft.. the alternative is to sign players who won't make the team better.

If he isn't going to qualify then his signing with LSU isn't going to provide him any leverage. Scouts aren't stupid, they know what kind of student he is.

16 signees....about 7 open spots. He's not going to have to line people up.

I think it will end up being around 10 open spots. Remember we aren't carrying a full roster after Luquette and the juco catcher.

Yes attrition will happen, I was just banking on the "for sures" that will not be back next year.

Right, I just meant on top of those 7 for sures you can still go ahead and add 2-3 more because the roster isn't currently full.

Which LSU prospects look like they have a legit chance to get drafted early? I know a couple, but wanted to have a list for when the MLB draft rolls around I/we can see if they get drafted as high as they thought.
