Not to get too far off topic, but has anyone heard about the health of Trenton Lape. Assume with him not in the portal they expect him back next season and if so will it be on the mound or as a position player. Seemed like they seem to think more of him as a pitcher than position player but seems like this dude has just gotten very little time dealing with injuries in high school and first year here.
I know he had TJ surgery about a year ago.

No it's a great question and he gets overlooked constantly...the reality of it was he and Anderson were both draft risks before their injuries.
Lape showed more promise at the high school level on the mound and I'd like to think with all of this time off at such a young age he's going to bounce back extremely quickly moving forward. If he's a 1 inning guy right now that's perfectly fine for where he is.
He's a corner infielder who has more power than his frame shows but he needs to sit somewhere around 6'1 195-200lbs instead of 6'1 175lbs at 3B or 1B. They need to add some weight to him desperately over the offseason.

If he had surgery a year ago I would guess he’s on similar throwing program as noot and shores have gone through
Throwing bullpens and will likely ramp up in fall
No sense in sending him to summer ball where those coaches don’t necessarily know his injury situation that would be better monitored by lsu

Also I signed up for the 64analytics site for the portal and it really is awesome if you're a data nerd.
Hard to rank thousands of portal players (I think we can all agree Brady Neal and Sam Dutton's rankings are a bit
) but overall I think they do a pretty good job with how fluid things are.
They do give you a week for free if you're interested, then it's $12.99/mo (dont see the point in signing up for a year for discount with portal season being relatively short.
But I was just looking at catchers knowing it might be something Jay is still pondering and overall it is a pretty sad state there. Neal is their top ranked catcher in the portal and we all know he struggled mightily behind the plate and at the plate against the good pitching he saw this season. I looked at the higher ranked guys at catcher they have and most of even the committed ones looked terrible behind the plate defensively (like 9-12 passed balls over the season, sometimes pretty poor thrown out rates as well) with a handful also really struggling AT the plate with pretty meh averages.
Who I did come across was Geoff Marlow (RH, JR.) and hold your breath here, from Southwestern Oklahoma State (Division II). He's ranked the #430 overall/#13 catcher portal player on 64analytics but his wRCE is the best among all the catchers which is a mostly objective look at things taking out a lot of the subjective stuff. The reason why:
.359 batting average, 1.141 OPS, 1:1 K:BB ratio, only 1 PB and 2 E all season as the primary catcher there. threw out 10 of 32 base stealers which is a 68.75% success rate against him stealing which is pretty good for him.
Also had a good 1st season there hitting over .300 with over 1.000 OPS.
So looks like he is a good hitter and was quite good behind the plate as well. Always tough to see how especially lower division guys would translate but this guy to me seemed like the best available option in the portal as a catcher.

What does Bear Harrison’s look like? I know he was solid this year and everyone wants him. Was told he’s really good defensively but haven’t looked into much myself.

Does anyone have an idea where the Tigers transferring out will end up? Neal, Moffett, Bronzini, Kling, Coleman, etc. They have all been in the portal for a while but I haven't seen any updates. Several guys still have LSU gear on in their social media profiles (Moffett, Bronzini, Coleman, & Kling).
Neal
Moffett
Bronzini
Coleman
Kling
Mitchell
Seo
Roellig
Bucknam - DBU
Dutton - Auburn
Johnson - Oklahoma
Ruddell - LA Tech

There seems to be some renewed interest in Kade Lewis
Kade Lewis, 1B, Butler, FR, #200
.377/.436/.618/1.054, 10HR, 18BB, 35K, 3SB
Edit: Played most of his games at 1B (37), but also 12 at 3B and 2 in the OF (1 in center). He is playing in summer ball in Northwoods, I'll have to look to see where he is primarily playing there.

In any updates on visits that may be happening this weekend?
I figured we would be hosting several TAMU players.

Amazing. MS St thought they were getting him for sure. Gonna take a look to see that reaction.

Almost exclusively 1B with a couple DH games in there.

They have him pretty low at #881 overall in their rankings, he had 5 passed balls, 3 errors...if he started at catcher in the majority of his 42 starts thats not too bad at all. Threw out 9 of 28 base stealers which is good (67.9% success rate against him).
Being just a freshman he is pretty intriguing.

The thing with Harrison is that he has a brother that's already pitching in the majors, so we know he can handle velocity.
His brother graduated HS with Reyzelman. They were on the same team as seniors (Reyzelman famously was cut from the team in prior years), with Blake Burke as a sophomore on that team.

What do we call Jared Jones if he stays and we get Bear Harrison?
Posted on 6/28/24 at 11:50 am to DRock88
We'll probably have to go into different types of bears. Being from California, Harrison would probably be a Brown Bear.
Being giant and pale, Jones would be a polar bear.
