Hannys podcast was talking 6 figure deals for players also, at least the possibility. I think we're a player.

Matt also mentioned UT having a large NIL deal in place for a portal player. Hope that wasn’t Ahuna.

He visited Tennessee yesterday. They are very organized with their NIL stuff and have a very willing fanbase.

People keep trying to talk about how no one will match LSU in baseball NIL. Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Tennessee, plus probably A&M, all can and are willing too.

And, don't get me wrong, I like the idea of taking a chance on Hurd. But, if you get 2-3 immediate impact pitchers, you're already getting really tight. You'd be sending off a more sure thing for an unknown by taking Hurd.

Jay could very well play defense on this one, though...to make sure nobody else gets the reward with the risk.

I think you have to operate under the assumption that not all of those guys are coming back and decisions will have to be made. If you want guys in the portal, you go get them and then everyone can earn their spot because they have superior talent or you can ask guys to leave. It's cut throat unfortunately and I don't think Ben McDonald was kidding when he said he expects a ton of turnover.

I think guys like Fontenot, Bollman are gone and Reyz, Gervase are all going to get drafted high enough to probably leave. I don't think Misiorwski makes it or Shores, maybe Appleby is replaceable too. Everything will get sorted out in the fall.

I'm sure they're also doing their due diligence on Hurd and his timeline/recovery.

I agree with you on get while the getting is good in the portal. I am not saying Hurd is a take because of his medical hx but like you said Jay will do his due diligence. IMO I would grab two starters in the portal immediately and then see where you are after the draft and if needed grab another. Jay knows who he wants to keep as far as the current players.

I could see that. I don't ask about those details, I usually just ask if they're on a guy. They're in on White, but he would be more of a luxury. They want Ahuna because they want to make sure they're set at shortstop. If Lawson goes pro, they have questions there.

I've mentioned Hunter Haas on here before as an option. He's trending toward following Michael Earley to A&M.

Keaschall seems to be trending Arizona State.

That's tough. I like the potential from Haas. I did notice he was liking a ton of A&M baseball posts on twitter so not surprising.

I also saw on twitter today that former freshman Hog, Drake Varnado, is headed to Arizona State. Probably doesn't impact Keaschall but I suppose it could.

Planning on going to go watch the Georgetown / Frisco Wakeland 5A semi tonight and both the Southlake Carrol and Rockwall Heath / San Antonio Reagan games tomorrow.

I had Reagan behind the dish earlier this year and not surprised to see them in semis.

Someone else will have to field this question. I have no idea what's being done. This is where my lack of actual inside info and not being geographically close hinder my ability to answer questions.

Portal arm to monitor Janzen Keisel, BYU

ETA: Normally when I say this it's because one of the coaches is following the kid on twitter (usually Kelly).

In this case, Kelly, Johnson, and Tutko are following him. This is the closest thing to smoke that we have as outsiders.

My chapter had the quarterfinal series between Rockwall and Rockwall Heath at the Frisco RoughRider ballpark and I believe attendance was over 6K for both games. I was able to stream some of the Thursday day game last week which had a no-hitter.

Hoping to see the LSU commit from Southlake tomorrow evening and will report back if he pitches.

That would be awesome, please do.

Also, in general, thank you for being an umpire.

I'm starting to think we may be looking at some grad trasnfer, COVID year guys as well to take advantage of the extra 5 players on the roster. I know we have guys that fit that category already, but we don't know what kind of turnover we'll see. I'm not ready to expound on it, but I'm seeing outfielders pop up on our radar when I wouldn't have thought we'd be in that market. And most of them are guys that would be taking the COVID year.

That is extremely impressive. I wonder if we would use him as a reliever or potential starter. Would love to see how he would fall in line with the Milazzo and the incoming freshmen catchers.
