Probably more like 4-5.

I was excited to see him this year. I read somewhere he may have been in the dog house this year, hopefully he is a impactful piece next season.

My apologies. I was told he had TJ surgery right before his senior season at St Paul. Just read that it was surgery for a stress fracture in his elbow. I hope he recovers 100%....kid can play.

Before anyone bitches about any potential portal guys from small conferences, the All SEC first team featured players who played in 2021 at the following schools: Georgia Southern, Samford, Mercer, Lipscomb, and Coastal Carolina.

Plus what McManus (Samford) has came around to do in SEC play after a rough start.

Lotta people thought McManus wouldn’t hit

I remember being cautiously optimistic on him but telling people the not expect the same numbers he put up at Samford. I compared the discount on him to Scotty Dubrule at Mississippi State.
McManus was better at Samford than Dubrule was at Jacksonville, and on a rate basis (because he's only played about 2/3 of the games) better at LSU than Dubrule was at state. There really hasn't been much dropoff in McManus' SLG. The other stats have seen a reasonable dip, but he's definitely not out of his element.
Baseball Reference
Dubrule
McManus
ETA: There will definitely be more data points going forward on how guys may translate into the league. I used Dubrule last year because he was one of the only, and most profile, recent ones.

It's tough to say anyone will never contribute, because development isn't linear. Guys can progress seemingly out of nowhere.
This is always the craziest thing about baseball, especially in college. You really just have to capitalize on the present and not expect anyone to get better. There are so many guys that show potential as a true freshman and never even flash that same potential for the rest of their career.

Catchers
Previously I said we had about a 15% chance to get 2/3 to campus. I'd say now that is the most likely scenario. There is still a very outside chance, less than 5%, that we get all three.
Frey and Jones are both large humans. Even though they're similar physically, Frey was recruited to play QB and Jones was recruited to play OL in college. Because of how big they are, everyone is going to question their ability to stick at catcher long term.
We're going to lose McManus. Milazzo and Travinski have remaining eligibility. Priester is in the transfer portal. I haven't seen us connected to any portal, JUCO, or additional HS guys yet but I would guess we will be on the hunt. Neal expect Neal to go pro, but if he decides to come to campus then I could see us being good with what we have.
ETA: Yesterday when I posted the infielders post, Maui Ahuna jumped in the portal shortly afterward. Maybe this one will work similarly.

I expect Neal to go pro also. I don't think both Frey and Jones stick at catcher. I think 1 of them will get some work at 1B.
Side note: I saw the Ahuna kid name get linked with Tennessee and also Texas so far early in this process. Take that for what its worth. Still real early with his transfer process.

I saw him linked to Tennessee by Kendall Rogers, I didn't see the Texas stuff. But as of right now he's the best player in the portal so everyone is after him.
Posted on 5/24/22 at 9:12 am to ProjectP2294
The Texas thing has to do with multiple Texas players talking to him after their series this past weekend and also having a Kansas player from last season (Skyler Messinger) go to Texas. Nothing crazy hot, just a little connection. Although now that I'm looking into it, Messinger is a redshirt Senior so it's not like they will be teammates again if he ends up at Texas.

Priester is in the portal?

Priester and Drost entered the portal the other day. I started a thread on the rant, but it didn't stay on the first page very long. Alex Brady is also in the portal.
No one else has hit it yet.

I missed that. Was hoping Priester to be the 2way guy to push milazzo out
Posted on 5/24/22 at 9:38 am to ProjectP2294
I must have missed that one. Was really excited to for Brody Drost. Really pretty swing.

Strikes out too much. No place for him to play. Smart move on his part
Posted on 5/24/22 at 10:15 am to Datsmoneydude
Definitely get it. I just liked his potential that he flashed and was hoping he would develop but It's a good move for him.

Jason Kelly now following Maui Ahuna on twitter. Jay Johnson has liked about 3-4 tweets on him since yesterday. Seems we will definitely make the full court press, at least.
