He’s extremely well connected within the baseball program

He also hates Keith Law so I’d be surprised if he just lifted his words

Tebrake making it to campus, along with holding on to Reyzelman could be huge. Add a possible Skenes to the staff and it’s unreal at that point.

I doubt he starts over dugas, that makes no sense

Kling will force Jay to look at options to get him in the lineup, just like he had to do with Pearson. His ceiling is that high. With that said, he will be a freshman on what looks to be a very experienced and talented roster. We still don't really know who will be here or not yet, though.

Need Tebrake to make it and Hurd to be 100% healthy. Then losing Skenes won’t hurt quite as bad if he chooses Arkansas.

I think Kling will be better than Dugas and Pearson defensively and that with his bat being decent will get him in the lineup early. Just my way too early prediction of him.

Hope we are. I should have worded what I said different. I don’t think we lost him yet by any means. Should have said incase he does go to Arkansas.

I just dont see jay practically begging Dugas to come back and then benching him for a freshmen. Dugas will play IMO if he comes back

I actually don't think Jay begs are promises these players anything. If Jay actually made a promise like that, do you believe he would let that go public? These assumptions are made by the fan base. Out of Jay's own mouth, he said, what he does during evaluations is give them complete honesty.

Last year when Jay insisted on keeping Berry at 3B, I'll admit it appeared he was promised a position. I thought Merrifield was a much better option with Berry at DH. In hindsight, it turns out that Jay knows more about baseball then me (sarcasm). Merrifield lacked bat speed, something my untrained eye couldn't see. The other options were Holt, Bianco and Cranford.

As it turns out, Berry improved at 3B and it allowed us to utilize the DH position with other players, like Jobert. Jay was correct and keeping Berry at 3B was the best option for our team.

Jay's job is to win ball games. I can't see him losing games because he made a promise or begged a player. If Kling beats Dugas out then so be it. Dugas will win the tie breaker but if he is clearly beat out then it is what it is.

If Dugas can't win a starting position at LSU then he probably won't make it to the majors. He can start his minor league career a year early or he can win a championship with LSU. If he gets drafted higher than expected, he might sign. If the bonus money isn't there, expect him to enjoy another year at LSU in whatever role that is.

I’m thinking more on the lines of Kling playing RF and Dugas staying in LF eventually if he decides to come back. Pearson would then be pushed to DH. I think Pearson can also play 2nd but not sure if they will experiment with that since The infield went from being scarce to a logjam. Depending on if Pineda and Young don’t get drafted high. I think both of those guys make it to campus though.

Edit: Went look at Pearson in summer ball and it is all RF and LF. If Jay would want to experiment with him in the IF then he probably would have sent him somewhere other than the Cape to get some playtime at 2B.

Also, Kling went 2-4 last night with his 1st summer ball homer and 3 RBI.

I hope you don’t believe everything a coach says in an interview or press conference

Feel pretty safe with Johnson in saying the best players will play. He did it last year in a situation with Digiacomo & Pearson.

Kling still has to hit & play well. Even highly ranked freshmen come into places and they aren’t always ready.

Correct.

Why would Jay talk to (not beg) Dugas about coming back, even to play some 3B? Well, your other option is Thompson at 3B. And, you have 2 OF positions to fill aside Crews with Stevenson, Pearson, and freshmen. So, Dugas returning gives you some options at both spots. Jay will do anything in his power to keep from being handcuffed. He's not promising anybody anything, which is why I still don't think Dugas is a definite to return (especially if Skenes makes it here).

They will be fine if Dugas does not decide to come back. I think if he is healthy, he is that veteran type leadership guy like Elko was for Ole Miss though. I think Jay sees that with him and if healthy we know he can perform in the SEC.

That said this lineup will have so many options it will be unreal. Like you said, Jay is definitely making sure he is not handcuffed next season and will have all the options in the world to make fit and have the best lineup out on the field come SEC play and then toward the end of the season and postseason play.

Having seniors in your lineup that can hit is really underrated. I want him and beloso back.

Reggie Crawford committed to Tennessee. Now we need him to sign in the draft.
