He said he thought he would have to make a decision last year, but he never got drafted. Then he said quickly that he plans to sign pro if he gets drafted where he thinks he will. I don't think it will be for donuts but I do not think it will be a really high number. He loses all leverage for next draft and also gets older. As a pitcher that isn't good if the goal is MLB. Will all depend on what his mind is set on. I don't see him getting offered any more than 500K.
All that said, if he comes to LSU and shows he can compete against SEC competition then he can work his way into the top 2-3 rounds. Again he loses all leverage though, so would not get full signing bonus slot value in those rounds. Even a Golden Spikes winning pitcher in Kevin Kopps last season signed for 300K because he had no leverage. Only difference that would help that situation is Tebrake would be a starter and Kopps was reliever. Will be an interesting decision for him. I'm hoping the number isn't right and we land him.

Kopps was also a pure reliever with 1 pitch. Never going to get the money.

For Tebrake, the org that takes him will be important as well. Some clubs do a better job of developing pitchers than others and he may come down on his number for Cleveland or NYY.

Right, I mentioned that in the post. Losing the leverage will lose money no matter the type though. He would have to have a really ridiculous season at LSU next year to get a significant amount more than he gets offered this year. You look at someone like Landon Marceaux last season who was really good for LSU and had leverage and he didn't even sign for 800K.

We're starting to get to the phase where fans rationalize why players will turn down money for LSU.

Big time 2024 player. I saw something about him this morning when I woke up, but I confused it with Danny Arambula who is already committed. I'll add him to the list.

Interesting. As of a month ago he was committed to Florida according to twitter.

Sean Allen headed to Ohio State btw, just saw that on twitter this morning.

Says Cade was hitting 97 mph on a couple OF throws this year. woo buddy, that's a cannon.

I know the portal changes it completely now, but a lot of the people on the commit list for the next 2-3 years are really top notch guys who will be tough to get to campus. Now it is easier to go harder for some of those guys knowing you can fall back on the portal as you see them going into the 1st few rounds as they get closer to their draft year. Jay is just showing his top recruiting skills. If you can get 10-12 of that top talent like this season and get 4-5 of them each year then that is a good team year in and year out. Plus filling holes with the portal. I really like how Jay looks to be attacking rebuilding this program and is ahead of the game.

Success will help, too. Once these recruits see Jay getting teams to Omaha year in and year out, they'll start looking at the draft a little bit different. Kids will want to come join the fun, chew on a little NIL, then chase their MLB dream. A few of Jay's guys jumping through minor league ball quickly will also be a good look for his development.

I know it's from Arizona, but the first guy to reach the majors from last year's draft was Chase Silseth. He was the friday guy at Arizona in 2021 under Jay.

Nice nugget.
And now the kicker:
He originally went to Tennessee out of HS. He was in Tony's 2nd recruiting class there. Garrett Crochet was the first guy from the 2020 draft to make the majors and was in Tennessee's class the year before Silseth. So for consecutive years the first guy from a draft to make the majors played at Tennessee under Vitello.
I'm still annoyed we didn't go after Crochet. He's from Ocean Springs, MS and was committed to Jones I think before Tony recruited him to Tennessee.

Kiley McDaniel just did his final draft list update to 300 players. I haven't looked at it yet, but he tweeted out that we have 16 guys on the list.

No Reyzelman. No Shores.
Posted on 7/8/22 at 10:52 am to DRock88
I just edited in Shores. He doesn't have him as an LSU signee so he didn't show up in my filter. He also has LaViolette as an LSU signee at 276 and that hurts
