Kinda figured that based on all the draft talk. Just wasn't sure what that's based off of. Just in looking at their numbers on perfect game it looks like Jones has the edge, but you also don't see 6'5 catchers every day. Not that these are the only indicators. Just interesting.

According to perfect game:

Neal
Pop = 1.88
C Velo = 83
Exit Velo = 92

Jones
Pop = 1.85
C Velo = 84
Exit Velo = 102

for reference, Milazzo pop = 1.74

Neal is also over a year younger than Jones.

From what I read, Neal is much more polished as a defender overall. Receiving/blocking/footwork/etc.

Neal will never hit a baseball anywhere close to how far Jones can hit one though. Not many incoming recruits can.

I’m surprised LSU wasn’t ran on more this year, but between that & LSUs lack of SB attempts themselves, I wonder if the stolen base is just kind of being phased out. I think it could have helped Jay win more games this year, but I understand his philosophy all together.

That said lsu just needs someone to be able to handle the staff. Milazzo is fine at that, albeit I don’t think it is his strength. But I do hope one of these Freshmen make it in & are able to hit & handle the staff better than the guys this year.

What makes you think that isn’t a strength of Milazzo?

Interesting that they also list Moffett as more likely to go pro than Kennedy, Shores, Guidry etc

“Velocity philosophy”

Ever sit there and pout watching Florida, Tenn & Vandy cycle through ‘dudes’ every time the ball changes hands?

Night & day the transformation from PM to Jay. In two years lsu will have revamped its staff from Hilliard’s & Vietmeir’s to everyone will throw 92+.

Moffitt is a hog who throws gas, and I think he just may not have received the exposure one normally would by playing 1A ball. He has a lot of late helium from blowing up the combine workout. Hope he makes it here but it is easy to see why he’s well regarded by scouts

Someone was asking about which teams we will need to watch out for. This narrows down as the draft goes on and you see who gets taken but some of the big ones to watch out for are:

Orioles - Biggest draft pool, due to having the number one overall pick. Their average bonus size for the top 10 rounds is $1,410,333.33. They like to pick guys early that will take an underslot deal and spread the money out. They also have some front office guys that helped build the Astros up to their WS team. So they know how to pick. The big bonus pool absolutely helps with the first ten rounds, but it means they're also dangerous in the next ten rounds.

The Diamondbacks, Rangers, and Pirates would be next on the list in terms of average bonus size for the top ten rounds. They aren't as good at drafting though.

I will dig more into this, I only just set up the sheet to look at it. But right now the Guardians look like the biggest threat in terms of bonus pool and draft aptitude (after the Orioles). At least for pitchers.

Fortunately, the Yankees and Dodgers have much less to spend than other teams in this draft.

I emailed the GM of Frey’s Rocky Mountain team to see where he’s been playing. Will report back if he responds

yeah it makes sense. Also I think his makeup and potential is sky high, not just because he throws hard. Honestly, everyone has velo these days. The way he's built suggest he can get a lot more out of his ceiling long term.

Also have to keep in mind that most teams will likely go over the bonus pool money and just pay the penalty on it. Can go over up to 5% of pool amount and pay a 75% tax. I think I remember reading somewhere that 20 of the 30 teams went over last seasons draft and paid the penalty on it.

So many variables that go into it when looking further. Impossible to predict how it will play out.

The Rockies and Royals have been much more college happy the past years which helps.

I don't know why my computer messes up the format of my posts like that.

That's Orioles average bonus allotment for their picks in the first ten rounds. And that's a gigantic number. If they get Johnson or a college bat to take a haircut on the bonus, they will have a ton of money to spread around.

Gotcha

I hope they take Druw Jones and he leverages for over 9 million of that.

If they take Berry I'll pepper my angus.

When their GM was with the Astros they got Correa and McCullers in the same draft and then got Bregman, Tucker and Daz Cameron who was supposed to be a huge prospect in the same draft. Granted that second draft had an extra top 4 pick because they didn’t sign the #1 guy the year before, it still shows they clearly like upside and underslot deals.
