Luke Johnson tweeted out yesterday that there are 18 official visitors coming to town this weekend for baseball.

Interesting to see so many of these Louisiana kids committed that were top players at 10 years old. We always talk about worrying that some kids may drop off over time but doesn’t seem to be case with these ones that I know
Cabrera, Webre
Scherer
Brody Drost, Tre Morgan
Connor Simon (arm and glove)

They only brought in 9 of them this past weekend, they will be bringing in another nine for the next home game I guess.

I just found that former LSU commit for the 2017 class Miguel Reyes has landed at Hutchinson CC in Kansas. It would take quite a bit for him to end up back on our radar, IMO.

Is Reyes a bad head case or bad grades?

2018 RHP commit Chase Costello from Pompano Beach, FL was profiled today on Baseball America's website. He, along with several other LSU commits, is competing in the WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, FL. This is kind of the capstone of the summer showcase circuit and generally the last opportunity for scouts to see guys before they start their senior season.

Probably a little bit of both in regards to Reyes. Not sure if we missed out on much help.

quote:Amazing to me that we're offering kids while they're in 8th grade. (not saying it's bad, it's just seems like every year recruiting digs younger and younger).

If you think that's bad look how early softball is offering, but that seems to be the dynamics now.

About the same, check out the softball thread.

Just to clarify, Simon got offered at the end of the summer just prior to starting the 9th grade.
I also think it's too early for that kind of thing, Mainieri even said similar in an interview with USA Today (I think the interview is linked in this thread somewhere).
Softball seems to be offering even earlier. There were a lot of baseball programs with 2021 commits well before LSU. But this is becoming more commonplace. When we offered Dylan Moses (earlier in his recruitment than this kid, IIRC) it was big news. And in football it's still big news for an offer to go out that early.

There's pretty much no blowback to offering kids that early especially in things basically not publicized in baseball and softball. IF someone looks to be special early on, offer them and get them locked up if you can, if they turn out to be a dud 3-4 years later in high school, drop'em, and it's not like there will really be any negative press on you.

Pretty much. I'm still trying to find more verification that a player I currently have on the commit list is still committed to us. I found his commitment in an article a couple years ago, and nothing since, but I haven't seen that he's decommitted or committed anywhere else. But there is nothing out there about him anywhere.

LSU picked up another 2021 commit in RHP Grant Taylor from Florence, AL.

How does the 18 class stack up to the 17 class so far? I know there's at least 2 serious risk, but it seems like most of the class is oos guys. Should we be able to hang on to most?
