Project what are our chances signing Pearson from WM ?

It all depends on what his number is. The only thing that's going to drop him in the draft is signability.
The draft bonus pools have been evened out a bit, lessening the total that MLB altogether can spend, but some teams will still have a ton of money to spend. He's seemed interested in getting to campus so far, but that can change when real offers are put in front of him.
He's a Day 1 starter if he gets here though.

2017 LHP Signee John Kodros threw a 5 inning no hitter for his Coppell High team last week: LINK.

Some final stats on Taylor Peterson, the recently committed LHP from Chandler-Gilbert CC in Arizona:
35.1 IP
62 K
19 BB
1.27 ERA
1.08 WHIP
3.26 Ks to ever BB
15.19 Ks per 9 innings
Struck out 43% of batters faced.
He has a chance to be a very valuable bullpen piece next season. I've been trying to find a scouting report on him for velo, pitch type, etc. But I've not been successful.
ETA: While looking up JUCO stats, I found this guy: Tyreque Reed from Itawamba CC. He hit .511 this year with an OPS somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.600. I don't know if he's committed to anyone, but he's build like a middle linebacker and I want him as our DH.

Just based on what we have coming back I have Walker, Hess, and Beck/Peterson as our weekend rotation
Is there any incoming freshmen that could break that up? Bc if not that's a SEC middle of the pack rotation at best

I don't think enlow is a foregone conclusion to go pro yet. He would be a weekend guy. Mccabe could be to. I still don't think storz is definitely gone.
Keller is a candidate. We've got some talented arms coming in.

Do you have a good feeling about a Top Prospect making it to campus like Kevin Gausman did.
Posted on 5/13/17 at 9:35 am to ProjectP2294
Enloe does seem to really want to go to LSU (he took his senior pics in Alex box). His stick also seems to be slipping a little, but he's still a top 30 prospect.

Teurlings/Webre are currently on CST in the Division II championship game.
ETA: Looks like CST will have games all day. Curtis against Catholic at 3:00 in the Division I championship, West Monroe/Pearson against Central at 6:00 in the 5A championship.

Baseball America had a Q and A with Jacob Pearson the other day: LINK
There are some encouraging things in there, but he does still say the draft is a big possibility. He recently tweeted out a picture that was also encouraging, re: him getting to campus, but when there is life changing money being offered things can change.
ETA: Baseball America also published this Op Ed by Peter Gammons which advocates for (most) kids to play in college instead of going pro out of high school: LINK.
It's interesting to see something like that coming from the MLB angle. And especially interesting to see someone like Gammons touting the developmental plusses of playing college ball vs minor league ball.

Ray Rosetta wrote a piece on new 2017 commit Braden Doughty for the Livingston Parish News: LINK
It's a good feature article on him. He's coming in as a preferred walk-on.

2017 MIF Hal Hughes hit a two run double to lead his team to victory in the Oklahoma All Star game yesterday: LINK.
Hughes is reported to be an excellent defender. He played Shortstop for his high school team, but he will probably play all over the infield in college. He is the son of Oklahoma head baseball coach Pete Hughes.

So is it between Bechtold and Hughes for second base next year with slaughter at third?
Posted on 5/19/17 at 10:20 am to bugafor6
Probably Bechtold at third with Slaughter at 2nd. I don't anticipate Hughes being a starter as a freshman.

CPM keeping this inf class small anticipating a big one next year?

I just saw on twitter that 2018 Ruston Catcher CJ Willis re-opened his recruitment. He had been committed to Ole Miss. I don't know where we stand with him, but hopefully this is good news for us. He's one of the top 3 players in the state for 2018.

quote:would be such a massive pickup, I can't imagine a team not taking a flier on him in the 2nd round. Unless he's just too raw
Looks like we have a good shot at Storz, unless he just wants the money.

If he makes it to campus, I'm really interested to see if they give him a shot at the plate through his career. He made it to the finals in the all American homer in derby which tells you he's got some plus plus power.
