you can look at Colston, Moore, Pierre, Nicks, Jabari, Fujita........ Grant, Jenkins, Meachum ( finally coming around), Reggie..... and the facts are that rating services in the NFL and College mean little -- it's how the strong, athletic kids develop. There are as many #1 busts as there are ***** star college kids.We have a good class with a LOT of big time potential that can compete for titles in this class regardless of the doom and gloomers on this board who know very little about talent evaluation.

This.....

Sometimes a college team will miss. Sometimes a Pro team will miss.

I wouldn't be surprised if a single NFL team spends more resources on scouting and the draft than any service like Rivals or Scout. Yet less than 50% of 1st rounders ever make the pro-bowl during their careers and less than 60% of the 1st 5 picks ever make it. These services do a good job considering that they have more players to evaluate who aren't even fully grown yet, who receive highly variable coaching, and play against highly variable competition. Collectively the stars are a good measure of class quality, but it's insane to take an individual's ranking to the bank. It works like a diversified portfolio. Any one investment may tank, but collectiveyly you have less risk.

Great coaching and QB play makes a huge difference. With Drew Brees and Curtis Johnson , I'd look like a 5 star receiver.

whenever these conversations come up, which is daily I think back to Eric Martin, I don't know what he was rated out of HS but I doubt very high. He wasn't real fast or real tall but he could get open and catch the ball,he had very strong hands. He used his body, which was good size to block out defenders and to break away from would be tacklers. He was an All-American for us and upon graduation, had the third most receiving yards in SEC history. He went on to have a tremendous pro career making all pro at least one year and still owns the record for the most yards receiving yards by a Saints player. Welcome Mr. Williams

Played his first year at RB.

Last year we had a bunch of guy ranked higher than Josh Downs, who from that class had more playing time on the DL?

In the Super Bowl next week, you will have at least 10 players starting/playing, that were never drafted in the NFL.

you say that as if Drew Brees was a "can't miss" NFL/College prospect

We all ( me too ) get wrapped up in rankings. My point is that none of us know how good this or Florida, Texas, AU..... class will actually turn out. My point is that if we and others have a top 10 or so class every year, then all 10 of us have a shot to win in all.

Why does this type of thread continue to flood this board. There needs to be an auto response.

Slow time of the year.

Its better to look at a class after the 4th or 5th year.

It just shows that there are about 30 or so can't miss prospects, and most of the rest are in the same boat. The NFL does show that. Guys like Cassius Marsh aren't can't miss talents.

NFL is a quaterback league. College is a coaches league. Teams with good QB's generally do well. All teams in the NFL have very very similar talent. According to a retired guy on an interview just days ago said in fact talent on NFL teams were almost even, save a QB.

Agree for the most part. But there are teams like Minnesota and Dallas that are a cut above in talent, in terms of their size and some studs that they have. But a lot of teams are pretty similar.

The NFL tries to have parity like that with how they set up the salary cap and the draft.
