Nope. Had Sam Nader call his high school coach.

So what's the real reason they are "cutting him loose" and what would be the point of offering a grey shirt?

Last time i checked Sam was part of the staff at LSU matter of fact he was the recruiting coordinator for a long time. and getting offered a gray shirt is not exactly getting cut, it means he still gets a scholarship IF HE QUALIFIES with his grades. Still seems a pretty sweet deal and protects LSU just in case his coach is wrong with him qualifying, or maybe he holds out till he does qualify and then signs, nothing says he has to sign on signing day. this is not the first time it happened, look at Thomas last year, and a couple of other possible non qualifiers this year. If he had the grades, this wouldnt be an issue.

Wow, Les Miles and his staff really suck at recruiting. Are you telling me that LSU had no idea of this kid's academic standing last March? Are you telling me that LSU has not looked at his transcript since OFFERING HIM A SCHOLARSHIP? The kid takes his official visit with his family on Jan. 26th, and everything is good to go. Then on Jan. 28th the LSU coaching staff suddenly questions a course taken 7 months ago?

You keep trying to build this strawman that I think LSU was unaware of his academic issues. I never said that, nor do I believe that. Try to keep up.

Wow, that's great advice. You would think that Les Miles or Brick Haley would tell him that, right?

Thats EXACTLY what LSU is saying when offering the greyshirt!

Im glad you're offering us insight but my God, get a grip. LSU wants him here when everything is right. He has an offer. Tell him to call Elliot Porter , i think thats the kid, if
he is so butthurt about this. Ask him how dumb it is to not just sit tight and get things right at the university you love.
He has an LSU offer. Take it or leave it. He would redshirt anywayAND your anger is whats driving this . It showed in that post about all the other lsu stuff u blurted out

Excuse? Nice of you to think so badly of a recruit that you assume LSU would only use grades as an excuse. I think there are plenty of rational LSU fans that have seen how good he is and wouldn't jump to the conclusion that LSU is better off without his talents.

He doesn't think poorly of the recruit...he is just emotionally involved and is having trouble looking at the issue objectively.

No it is a regular class that has passed the clearinghouse before. Nothing new or strange.

My point is if the they had doubts about his grades (they have done nothing but go up) last year they shouldn't have even offered him.

Just remember, Mathieu, Ware, and Simon were never suspended for a game, just held from play. Remember that we expect Jarrett Lee to play a vital role in the offense in the national title game. Remember that we expect to see Russell Shepard be more involved in the offense next week. We also plan on being more versatile in the passing game with Mettenberger at quarterback.

lots of butt-hurt up in here...

I realized that, but while I was being mostly sarcastic, my point was to assume grades were purely an excuse is to slight Lawsons apparent ability by assuming LSU does not want him regardless. I consider that a slight against Lawson

There is nothing regular about taking online courses to make up credits.

LSU should hold itself to the same standard as its competitors. All schools offer kids who are not yet qualified.

True I do have an emotional investment in this but it is still bad business to pull or "delay" a scholarship.

The only thing that is hurt is the kids pride. Everything he wanted is still there for the taking for him...just a single semester later. It was HIGHLY unlikely he was going to play in year 1 anyway. Your emotional connection is keeping you from evaluating this situation clearly.

Who's to say that they won't find another excuse after his grey shirt?

If they didn't want him, they would just pull the offer completely. It's smart on LSU's part to grey-shirt him, let him prove he can qualify and then let him take up a scholly spot. rather than letting him take the spot and then fail to qualify because then both sides are boned. The gray shirt protects LSU and still allows Lawson to play football at LSU with 7/8 semesters paid for. He should take the grey-shirt unless he is getting a full ride to another BCS school.

Agreed. Who's to say he doesn't redshirt his Freshman year? Many do these days so they have more elgibility, learn the plays, get stronger/faster etc.

I've seen him play, it's going to take him longer than "just" his Freshman year to see the field, in my opinion.
