damn, this is a July thread.

Anyhow, so if he's listed as the 3rd FS, there's a high probability that he's looking at a RS?

Highly doubt that...I'm sure he can do some ST this year. We'll be interesting to see how he progresses though. Clinton-Dix may be hard to beat out. Sunseri probably won't...based purely on race.

He'd be #2 on our depth chart behind Reid...and Reid will be gone after this year. It would be Collins starting his Soph, Jr, and possibly Sr year.

For sure ahead of Martin? Its easy to assume since he's not in our camp, competing side to side with our players etc.

Yeah, I'm never quick to make such conclusions involving prima donna recruits. Being highly touted is one thing, but abusing the process is another.

Long list of LA recruits leaving the state and never panning out or having lackluster careers. Most of them are even recent, and some of them actually end up on our roster from other states.

A guy like Martin could easily make you forget about Loston the same way Steltz made you forget about Daniels. I know when Daniels was suspended the first half of the Sugar Bowl, the coaches were high on Steltz, and he may have started anyway.

Collins is an exceptional athlete, but there's just so much more to it, and the guys more likely to draw attention to themselves during the recruiting process are the ones less likely to have the "more to it" part.

So are you saying that LC's mom should begin to get over the thought of her two sons playing on the field together? I mean if LC can't make the field (except for mop up duty and special teams), the reason for GW to go to Bama and see her two sons play on the same field together is basically moot.

An equally long list of ones that have been stars.

Collins may be great or he may not. it doesn't matter because LSU just gets someone else.

Martin has been here a year already and played some last year. I don't see how someone could just assume based on his HS performance that Collins would be our #2 S behind Ried. He might, but he might not we'll never know.

Free Safety....ahead of Eugene. Martin is SS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Doesn't really matter, as there's basically no difference in the respective safety positions in Chavis' scheme. The third safety is simply the third safety; he will replace whichever one goes out.

Well, you're going to have to start to name a few.

The point of my response is that the ones seeking the drama, don't pan out when they leave the state. Sure, there's many through the years that have went on to success, but how many of those were the ones that strung LSU along, and sought the most attention.

Collins may be that one, but the odds are against him based on previous history.

Previous history is completely immaterial to Collins' potential for success.

Well, that's not what you said and Landon Collins did not "string anyone along". He made his decision a good 4 weeks before signing day. Which gave the staff more than enough time to go out a recruit someone else like Corey Thompson.

Just because he was born and raised in La does not obligate him to be an LSU fan or go there because he is a good football player. It also does not mean he has to notify LSU years in advance if he decides not to go to LSU. He may have made the decision long before the UA game when he announced, but he may not have, or at least may have wanted to keep his options open.

I will grant you guys like T Davis, J Jackson and R Perilloux that played games with schools proved to be guys of low character that did not pan out, but that is not most guys that go out of state and you did not single out low character guys. Most people that are upset about LC get upset any time a big recruit LSU wants goes out of state, even if they handle well. There is nothing wrong with what LC did, he's not the only kid to announce on TV, I'm sure LSU has gotten some of those as well.
