tenure at a given Div 1 school. Why not go to a small school if you not gonna play. Do you stay on just to say "I play football for________", but never see the field. Do they hang on false hopes? I think a coach should tell these kids the truth and find them another school.

maybe a degree from LSU looks better than one from Nicholls St? It tends to open a few more doors for you down the road than being a starter for some shite school.

Some kids get to a place and like the other aspects of their life even if they aren't playing regularly. Besides, most of them can figure out whether or not they are going to be a big contributor after a couple of years.

I'd pass up playing time at a small school to watch from the sidelines for LSU...but that's just me. I bleed P&G

Exactly. Plus a lot of these kids are promised their time will come, when it never does. Though I think Miles does a good job of keeping his word to upperclassmen. For better or worse at times.

I have a good friend from high school who walked on to LSU and only dressed for home games his senior year...received 2 national champ rings, 2 sugar bowl rings, 2 sec champ rings, tons of bowl perks, and treated w/ the prestige that is an LSU football player.
wonder why he did that instead of playin in front of a few thousand people at SLU and not getting shite

I wouldn't call Nicholls St. a shite school, they have some programs that compare favorably to programs at LSU
they don't have the funding from the state that LSU has so its obvious they would never be able to keep up in all aspects

I'm only talking about playing time, betterment of a player while at college. I know the prestige factor, but it would free up scholarships for better players.

Because some people realize they are getting a good education and thats their ultimate goal.
eta: this too.

max..wrong answer. I have 2 siblings, one who graduated with a degree from lsu and one who graduated from mcneese with the same degree. Both have similiar jobs, the one from mcneese makes more money. Both are a good education!

True...maybe...
But the majority of kids in LA, if they could choose which school in LA they could attend for free, most would pick LSU.

True..as a player I would want p.t., trying to make it to the next level. riding the pine is no fun. Especially if you have a teammate who took the smaller school route out of highschool, and he gets pt and you sit and hope. B. J. Sams made that choice and chose right.

If you are that good you will not ride the pine at a larger university. Eventually the coaches will see your talent and you will get your shot.

Yeah, Matt Cassell finally got a shot and now he's franchised.
