you have 15-18 year old kids....all wanting to play college football.....again, you have KIDS dreaming of playing college football......

and you think its odd that kids want to put on uniforms of their dream schools?

yeah, i am sure you didn't....also pretty sure you were never recruited in any sport out of HS.... so not surprising.

Lol dress up is dress up

Just as well do Disney princesses

I don't care that they do it. Just seems prissy. I guess I need to be more gender fluid

Nah, i think you need to just realize these are kids. Why do adults have to assume everything, at all times, is strictly business and cannot enjoy themselves and have fun as kids??

you were either dorky AF as a kid, or you decided not to remember how 16 year old kids act.

Do you play dress up every day you go into the office? (assuming you work haha)

So not wanting to play dress up is why I was not a collegiate level athlete?

I was not recruited and not a good athlete

Bro.....sounds like you have an identity crisis if you are this worried about looking "prissy" in front of your grandparents...with you at the age of 42.....i mean wtf?

Grandparents are no longer with us. I am comfortable with who I am. It was more a question of changing norms.

Kids dressing up in uniform on recruiting trip
Am I the only one that finds it odd?

Odd? Not really, considering how much money goes into courting bluechip recruits.

That schools have recruits dress out in uniform is just a simple tool of psychological projection to influence recruits, somewhat similar to how luxury / tech / lifestyle brands project the idea that if you too become a customer you somehow share in the elite lifestyle that their celebrity brand ambassadors enjoy.

Not sure what schools started this practice or when, but once the first schools started doing it, pretty much all of the major ones had to follow suit (no pun intended). Imagine a recruit deciding between LSU, UF, A&M, and Bama... and say UF is the only place he was encouraged to try on a uniform. If the recruit is really torn about his decision, and constantly reviews any materials he has from his visits-- including photos-- then seeing himself in the UF uniform every time he looks would have the potential to subtly influence him over time to see himself at UF. There's no way LSU, Bama and A&M are going to let UF have that advantage.

So, it's not really playing dress up at all. It's all about creating mental imagery and influence. "Look how good you look in an LSU uniform." "Envision yourself as the next Ja'Marr Chase... because that's what we (the coaching staff) see in you and that's how we plan to use you." Etc...

To be fair, though it is salesmanship, it doesn't mean it's a lie or dishonest. Coaching staffs really do want bluechip recruits to show up and be the next superstars replacing those who just left for the NFL, and so they just do everything they can to help the recruits see their school in the most favorable light, and to see it as home and a part of their identity. It's just a way more over the top version of what highly qualified students go through when applying to college, and the colleges start giving them pens and other paraphernalia / swag to reinforce a connection.

Solid post

Its like sitting in the convertible and salesperson setting vision.

I get why schools have to do it

I have no issue with it other than seems awkward

Yeah, exactly.

And if by awkward you mean the professional photos (like the one earlier in the thread with a player, his dad and Coach Mullen) are sometimes cheesy / borderline cringey, I wouldn't argue with that.

Nothing is more weird/odd than the trend of announcing you have received an offer by posting a collage of 4 random pictures on Twitter
