Anyone notice that Nick Jacobs and Adams have the same measurables. 6'5 243 4.8(40)? I guess one will be TE,one DE??

A report a while ago said Jacobs is well over 260 and up to about 6'6 now. He's looking like an OT.

Like Aghayere?

He didn't recruit Aghayere, and he hardly played him by the end of the year. He had to go with what he had.

But Chavis' style DEs are like the ones Tennessee had starting for them this year. Both 240 lbs and good pass rushers.

This pickup just says the coahces are not happy with some of the young guys player development and need someone to step right in to fill a gap at DE.

Also says that some guys will be changing positions and opening up spots at DE.

RDE: Edwards
Montgomery/Adams

LDE: Levingston/Chancey (unfortunately, still no speed)

TE: Clement (would be our most talented option, as I see Peterson as more of a Colston type WR)

Would still love to pull Grissom, an underrated prospect nationally based on his film, IMO.

Logan I had no idea they have DT plans for him...he's really, really small for a DT. At least right now.

Have you seen him lately? No way he's less than 280...

I wouldn't go near that far. A couple might not end up being DEs but you can't say we don't have a ton of DEs compared to TEs. I also forgot Mingo in there.

But that's the point - you don't need 15 TEs. No one has that many on their roster.

You expect a true freshman to play at TE? Edwards was NOT a true freshman this year BTW.

Did a true freshman named Richard Dickson not play? Sorry Edwards was a RS freshman. Not that huge of a difference...

quote:

That's only a "maybe" and he's not really a TE at his size.

It took him one offseason to get from 215 to 240ish. He looks about as thick to me as Richard Dickson... don't see what the issue is or why it's so impossible for him to add 10 more pounds of muscle...

quote:

Those are maybes at best. Logan is pretty small and Brockers/Hicks can play both DT and DE.

We don't run a scheme with huge DEs anymore. That left once we signed Pelini. Hicks and Brockers are DTs strictly...

Is this condisdered a good pickup, or more of a headscrather committment? I hadn't heard of this guy before today.

His name has been mentioned for the last month or so on the pay sites. Not much mentioned here on TDings.

I don't think many people know much about him.

I think it's a pickup that you can't go wrong with. You know that playing DE and WR in high school means that you are dealing with a great athlete.

Tenn liked him as a TE, but LSU moved on the DE rout. He can play, and LSU has a lot of young guys at DE, especially if a guy like Pep moves inside. Adding an older kid who has good size and speed is a good move, IMO.

WTF? Where are you getting 15 from? Once again, we might only have like 4 next year. That's a lot less than DEs.

Yeah, because Zinger got hurt. He only caught 6 passes all year though.

And it seems like he won't be much of a player there. No one seems nearly as high on him as they were when he was coming out of high school 2 years ago.

You and I both know he's definitely not 240. He's 220, MAYBE. He looks like a WR.

Rohan, OBU, RAT in general...

What does this commitment mean for Houston Bates? Can we finally count him out?

Thanks.

Bates is a better commit than someone like Hagans was a few years ago. LSU takes guys every year like Corley who have lots of hype, but not a ton of talent. Guess my point is there aren't as many difference makers as everyone on here seem to think.

A guy like Anders from Bama was a nobody coming out of HS as well, Bates could maybe be a guy like that one day. He's a better prospect than Welter IMO, and maybe a few others.

I know you are a pretty big fan of Bates...or at least you will defend him.

I am not a fan of any of those pickups you mentioned honestly.

Then again, there are plenty of guys that don't turn into superstars and play a role.

However, it is sickening when you look at Bama and UF's classes and they have superstar talent in 95% of their pickups.
