If we don't get elite talent on DL, it's going to be hard to win a national title. Don't we all know kind of know this reality deep down?

big dudes that can move are rare....

after watching Maason smith not be the same guy after his injury and seeing that on TV all year long, you realize how much you need talent and depth upfront and the DL was always a strength of LSU football the last 20 years but it's fading off into very average the last several years.

We need DL back to LSU standards, - I know this post is just a repeat...

but it's going to be hard to get excited about recruiting until this side of the ball is talked about on podcasts- "Oh LSU is loaded on defense"

hoping Kelly gets us there...

I agree. Hopefully they hire a great DL Coach soon.

Hard to do that with an 82 year old coach. He literally is coaching the DL for the bowl. We need an elite recruiter in this spot.

We had one before House ran him off

Kelly will never get over the hump with his approach to recruiting the defensive side of the ball.

I think DE has been addressed and we are deep there. (Getting Gabe was Huge) but I feel if someway somehow we can get Mckinley in the class using the late momentum with him could be massive. A D Tackle class of Mckinley, Shone Washington, and De'Myrion Johnson is a solid start to build that position.

yep

The saban teams 2000-2004 and les Miles era had many great DL studs...then it faded at the end of Miles era

O recruited well for a bit

Those two at FSU were almost LSU commitments....they were big misses!

We've lost a few battles to UGA as well, and don't get me started on Alabama recruiting wars... during Miles Era it was always the stud OL we lost to Bama...we seem to be recruiting well, really well on OL under Kelly

Perhaps he knew more than House and our incompetent DC felt threatened?
And no doubt that the DL recruiting appears to be lacking especially compared to the OL.

I agree. Programs will probably be after Brad Davis next year I believe.

Looks like he wants to keep his DC also. BK is swimming in the cash right now, this defnese isn’t going to be any better next year

Ok, well this is what I want!

A new fantastic DL coach hired soon that is also a great recruiter. Then we sign Shone today, McKinley in January, and we will be on our way!

He had good defenses until they played someone in a significant bowl game.

Well if he tries filling the defensive roster with transfers from Southland and Conf USA again he'll get what he paid for in a sense.

Enlighten us on this philosophy you speak of and how it differs from the offense other than the quality of the staff.

If your answer is anything other than the defensive staff not being as good as the other side of the ball and needing replacements there, then you don’t know what you’re talking about.

A couple of the On3 guys think they may bulk Breaux up and move him inside, but that may just be conjecture. It will take a little time if they go that route, as well.

Right. Just 3 guys in a row who ended up as P5 head coaches.
