Good luck to CJ at Ole Miss.No matter how much people rag on Ole Miss they are bringing in some major talent this class. If they finish like they plan they are going to be close to top 15 on NSD.

Biggest mistake of his life... oh please. He's going to get immediate and significant playing time to showcase his talent alongside his friends in his homestate. Who knows what's going to happen in 4 years and to say it's the biggest mistake of his life... is absurd. Some of yall sound like he just stole your candy and kicked you in the balls.

Good luck to him at Ole Miss... I hope we pound the ball down their throats when we meet up.

I sure would like to know how HDN is pulling these guys from M. State considering the year the two programs just had.

Nutt always has one, maybe two, star recruits every three to four year. Matt Jones, D. McFadden, F. Jones, M. Mustain, DJ Williams, Ken Hamlin, etc.

Rivals was wrong.

Willis ran a 4.37 on his Pro Day at Ole Miss. This year, during the week of the Monday night game between the Saints-49ers, Mike Singletary said Willis wasn't just the fastest player on his defense, but that he was the fastest player on his team! His 9 tackles in that game helped explain why the Saints punted 6 times.

But to your point, when I saw CJ's size, I immediately thought of Willis. And it wouldn't surprise me if Rivals could be wrong again on his 40-time and he's actually faster. I think he is a beast in the making, and already has the measurables to play on Sundays. This makes the committment to Ole Miss even more frustrating. But I'll tune in to some games just to watch him play.

From an interview this afternoon, on the importance to him of staying in his home state:

"It was very important," Johnson said. "LSU has a lot to offer, but I've always been a guy who took pride in the state of Mississippi. If I were to go to LSU and then move on and go pro, people would always say, 'There's C.J. Johnson from LSU.' Mississippi wouldn't get any credit. Playing for Mississippi is really something that's always been a big thing for me."

PWillie was a lot faster when he graduated from Ole Miss than when he arrived. I might be mistaken, but I think he was a 2-star recruit by one of the services -- so much for star-ratings in his case.

Remember guys, Willis was a 3 star and nobody really recruited him hard other than Ole Miss. This guy is a 5 star going to waste away at a high school level team, but I guess the in-state thing was too much to overcome. He'll be fine as the big fish in a tiny, dry arse pond.

I can never blame a kid for wanting to stay in-state.

If he goes pro and plays in San Francisco, Mississippi is not gonna get credit. With that logic he can't go pro unless Miss. gets a pro team.

I have no problem with any high school student selecting any college, but at least have some sort of sound logic, not the Ole Miss head coaches' stupid logic.

djmicrobe - agree with everything you said but just wanted to add the slight difference between a college decision and a pro decision, the former decision is one of the high school athelete and latter is determined by a professional football team.

playing in Oxford worked out just terribly for Patrick Willis

No hard feelings for CJ. He is going where he wants to be, and I have no problem with that. But Patrick Willis didn't play for the DC that most fans at Ole Miss seem to want to fire for doing a very poor job. (He (Nix) seems to be about as popular with them as Crowton seemed to be at LSU.)

If CJ is a good as advertised, he will do just fine for his NFL career, even if the coaching is not quite as good. But he won't have nearly the chance for the hardware that he would likely have at LSU.

I hope he enjoys finishing no better 5th in the West the next few years.

LSU, Bama, Arky, Auburn and and improved Ms. St.

Ole Miss will be in trouble.

So he would rather "There's C.J. Johnson, from Ole Miss, who left the closer and better in-state college Mississippi State"?

Staying in state makes sense for a lot of kids. In this case staying in state at ole miss instead of Mississippi State doesn't make much sense. But good luck to him.

I can't fault the guy...he loves his home state. This is how he feels.
