LSU 2018 PG recruit Smart capped out an AMAZING two-day stretch by scoring 59 points against Little Elm High School out of Dallas Texas. He led Scotlandville to a win in a matchup against Top 5 sophomore PG recruit RJ Hampton on a young and inexperienced Scotlandville team. This comes 1 day after Smart scored 43 against Lincoln High School. I watched both games on Livestream and Smart was unbelievably impressive as his stats showed. He jumpshot has gotten much more consistent as he shot 7/13 from the 3 point line in the second game and a strong percentage in the first game as well. He has top notch court vision and even though he was scoring so frequently he never looked out of control or like he was forcing the issue. He found open teammates, rebounder, and limited turnovers in an overall stellar performance. Tiger nation should be ecstatic to have him on campus next year alongside Tremont Waters and Naz Reid. That team is looking promising for sure.

I watched him this week at the Catholic tourney. He did not shoot the ball well from the perimeter and it wasn't a jump shot. He had more of a set shot from behind the arc. He handled the ball extremely well and got to the goal with ease. He has tremendous upside and am glad he will be a tiger.

Him and Waters next season will be the country's best backcourt. They will lead the country in scoring.

Yes, he will have to work on that jump shot, but it can def be done, I to had a terrible J when I was young playing HS ball. Smart is an impressive ball handler and passer too, and I think will score inside a lot through his penetration.

I think he's just a little streaky at this point but his jumper is still ahead of other top PGs from previous years like John Wall, Derrick Rose, DeAaron Fox, etc. He showed this weekend he can knock it down consistently going 13/20 from 3 in 2 games. What's most impressive is his ability to pull up off the dribble and allow he does shoot a set shot he's still a 6'4 PG so he can get it off against most opponents.

And we may have the best pg coming off the bench in the nation with Skylar.

LSU will have some VERY good options at PG next season. Maybe the best in the SEC. However, Smart, like everyone else on LSU's team will have to learn how to defend. He certainly should have the size to do so

One problem with his jumper is he has a low release because like the guy said, he doesn’t really jump when he shoots. That could be more of a problem than accuracy in some cases because you need more separation to shoot when you are going against bigger guards. He’s good enough in every other category to still make him elite

The thing is as a 6'4 PG I just don't see him playing many bigger guards who can truly contest his shot. We've seen guards around his size with low release points be good enough shooters in the NBA like James Harden and D'Angelo Russell. I would worry more about the quickness of his shot and he seems to be improving in that aspect as well.

I know this is a Javonte Smart thread and I'm very ecstatic about him, but after watching the highlights of him vs RJ Hampton, I must say that Hampton is going to be a STUD. He looks like he has the potential to be a Russell Westbrook type of player. Great shot, Athletic, good size, fast as hell, plays defense.

With that said, I cant wait to see Smart next season.

Yeah Hampton is really good too. There's a reason he's a top 5 recruit in the 2020 class. Keep in mind though that he's a year old for his grade so he should technically be in 11th grade right now but he definitely has a lot of skill and athletic ability for his height and age. Don't know where LSU stands with him but being from Texas the LSU staff should definitely try to jump on him now if possible.

I sure hope Will Wade gets a guy like this. Dude plays the perimeter on offense at a high level and finish inside and out at will as a sophomore (junior level). And the fact that he is a year up is a good thing imo. He basically gets an extra year of training to play at the college level.

Speaking of.... I'm surprised more parents don't intentionally hold their kids back for this very reason. In the sense that mom and dad are athletic specimens and know their kid can dominate at something if trained right.

This was common a few years back at a handful of schools.
