Do we have anything for Jelani Jenkins's father? Got to keep up with the Joneses.

Here's a little quote from VolNation regarding JJ and his Dad. They are driking the cool aid big time. I figured I would stir the pot a little. My response is posted below.

quote:

No. That will not happen. If UT offers him a position it is because he earned it on his own merits.

There is a connection with him and Coach O.

I will admit that the timing is a bit strange, but Jackson was made a priority by this staff without mention of his father.

There is no package deal - at all.

(My response)

If there is not a package deal or at least the hope of JJ tagging along, then I would question this hire. The McNeese pass defense ranked 86th in passing yards given up and 84th in pass effeciency defense in the FCS this season. McNeese fans haven't been really happy with him so far. This certainly looks like an attempt at a package, or one buddy scratching another's back. On that note, it might also be a "curtousy interview" set up by O with no intention of a hire to bolster Mr. Guidry's resume. That seems to be pretty commonplace between friends in the college football ranks.

Considering that the previous regime took a chance on an FCS guy last year which didn't work out (and I do realize that it wasn't all Clawson's fault, but it was a PR disaster), would the new staff take another shot on a guy with even less of a track record? Kiffin may be the second coming, but programs have to have quality position coaches to teach technique and monitor progress across an 40+ man defensive roster.

As a mcneese student, I have to say that our football team would have won a couple more games this year had it not been for LSU like defenses we put on the field. Our offense was ranked in the top 5 and our defense was shite, ESPECIALLY the secondary.
So basically its LSU's fault your team lost?

Seems hiring a family member at a university when someone is being recruited should be a major recruiting violation. Basically they are giving a family member money, even if they are working for it. Seems they should be required to prove the relative was up for the job prior to recruitment in order for that to happen.

That is why you would never catch LSU doing this.

disagree, if his dad is hired by Tennessee and Janzen doesn't go to Tennessee. Janzen will not go to Tennessee's biggest rival.

This makes sense.

Of course, SFP said he was positive that if TN hires the father, Jackson is going to Bama.

So, we'll have to see.

Well, LG is a good coach and I think he'll get to that level soon but he doesn't have enough credentials right now to be hired by a major program. Read his best bet may be Miami(OH) as far as getting a coaching gig. Either way hes going to move his way up, no doubt. Hope when he shows his credentials, LSU takes a hard look at him.

guys, I cannot believe this thread has gone four pages. This is all you need to know about Jordy and his "knowledge" of anything relating to LSU sports ...

A few weeks back, I called into his show and started discussing the DC search and who I thought would be good for the job. He interrupted me, and gave me his top 3 candidates ... one of which was his top candidate, Sylvester Croom. End of story ... I'll never assume Jordy has any "insider knowledge" again ... Or for that matter, knowledge period, lol. If you don't get why that's funny, please do a google search for Croom's coaching background.

Jordy is a great guy, has a great radio show and loves the Tigers, but please take everything he says with a grain of salt, because he has less insider knowledge than the majority of people on this board. He's a cheerleader, nothing less, nothing more. In his defense, his job keeps him so busy he doesn't have nearly as much time as most of us to stay "abreast" of everything going on.

JJ is not going to Tennessee. Even if his father gets that job (which is highly unlikely), he still is not going to go to Tennessee.

Yea! That's why Pistol Pete came to LSU when his dad was named coach, and Pops was fired the season after Pete left.

Would Janzen's dad be a sought after DB coach, regardless of Janzen being his son?

He could not keep his head coaching job at Carencro High School or DC job at McNeese. Sure he is back as the DBs coach now but If you want a example of Coach Guidry's defensive genius find some game tape on the Southeastern Louisiana Vs. McNeese game a couple of Seasons ago. McNeese had superior talent and should have dominated that game. It was amazing to see that many slow white WR's so open, that was the first time I ever saw a secondary cover absolutely no one, complete confusion and dismay. Tenn can justify it like they want this is a trick right out of Pete Carol's recruiting handbook.

Gotta ask:
What is JJ's dad's resume as a coach and how has he done as a secondary coach so far?

Is he actually a talented coach who would be considered for an SEC postion without his son being a 5* recruit?

There seems to be a slight problem with your story...a couple of years ago Coach Guidry was still at Carencro High School.
