I think in the 17 class they did exactly what you are saying.
They took several lower rated DL because of need now none of them proved to be good enough to play at LSU. Come the frick on

Not to be a contrarian, but he is not 6’5”. 247 has him listed at 6’3”. No matter the height, he’s still a very good d-lineman.

Oh my God would he get hammered?! He would be called a "dumbass shrimp boat captain" by the masses of idiots. O is doing exactly what he should be doing. Stocking this program up with the most talent he possibly can to execute our schemes. Then they will coach them up/develop them into beasts, get moffitized, and just go execute and win baby. On to the next season, wash, rinse, repeat, lol. I love it.

quote:Agree with this. Not only that but Gaye has 2 years. Lee has 4.
If Gaye were to go, he would have been the first one especially before they ax a LA kid. You never want to see that and they better hope they nail his replacement & Lee is never a problem for us for wherever he goes.
quote:I hope so. I guess they’re keeping him. I’m gonna not question O after the Coke Tracy signing though
As for Gaye I think they think of him as a plug and play starter in 2020. O loves his jucos and they will need him immediately. They haven’t had a twitchy DE with his size like him in the Aranda era.

If Gaye is kept, it is for the immediate help. They will need someone next year. Lawrence and Fehoko leaving, maybe Logan. Thomas already gone. Need someone to play a lot next year. Supposedly, Gaye has been looking better this year, but still a risk with a juco, but a big risk for a true freshman to be ready day 1

No they're not. They have guys in other positions where they can process them and then keep a guy like Lee to help load the bigger need up right now in dline. They would still have depth at the position of need they processed a player. I mean just looking at the commits in this class...seriously why do you need 3 WRs? LSU has like 20 WRs on the roster and even if 3 left you don't have to get 3 guys to replace them due to your current depth. Lots of young guys still on the roster in that position too. It's not a need position and we're still taking 3 guys. Seems unnecessary while a guy like Lee is in a huge positional need and has to be rated higher than some other guys we have. I'm not going to name the names but you know who they are. Why not Branch and Lee then sacrifice elsewhere for someone who isn't considered as talented as Lee?
It's not at all "exactly what's happening" but of course I'm not looking at their board I'm just speculating. I find it hard to believe Lee is at the bottom of LSU's current commitment board. If he's at the bottom of their board now then, well, it makes sense. I think it has more to do with positional need being replaced with a more talented player and not filling the rest of your commits up with the best players available going top to bottom regardless of positional needs. They're processing Lee because they have other dline who are more talented ready to commit or committed rather than just telling someone at another position you're not as talented as Lee take a hike. It's speculation though.

He might not be at the bottom of the list, but he is the 1st off the list. There will be more guys who get processed. We have 4 guys we are hoping to get and don't have room for, with Dummervill, Evans, Webb and Burch. 3 of them people are extremely confident on, 1 confidence is growing.

They better not whiff on any of those dudes then or you really fricked up.

they would have also "really fricked up" if they turn away someone b/c they are keeping someone lesser. They have plenty of options currently to replace Lee, which is why they will probably have to get rid of someone else. They are also putting themselves in a better spot than they did with the SUrtain situation, b/c most of the guys are early signing period guys. Gives them time to correct.

It's ironic that Clemson is able to compete for titles and we don't ever process commitments. Turns out you can win big AND do things the right way.

In all seriousness, cutting kids is not a requirement to play big boy football. Making solid evaluations and sticking to your guns pays off in the long run. It frustrates the hell out of me sometimes when we can't take stud prospects late but the results on the field say it works.

I would call this particular class a relatively unique situation. This won’t be an every year thing. They pulled in as many quality commits as we could get, and then once we got on this trajectory, everyone wants in, including more talented players. You can’t turn down 5* because you don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings.
With the move by LSU from a good team to an elite team, and the desire to stay there, we have to get the highest rated trench players and difference makers we can.

Don't think LSU was prepared for this type of interest from recruits. CLemson is at the top of the world and should expect only the absolute best at every position. I doubt this plagues LSU next year as they'll be expecting people on their new high to pick who they want after they skull frick Clemson.

This is true. Usually teams will see an uptick in recruiting after a great season. Clemson wins a title and they become the new "it" school. All of the sudden going to Clemson is the cool thing to do so you have a foot in the door with almost any recruit.
But LSU has become the new "it" school in the middle of the season. And it's totally changed their approach to this class. 2020 was always going to be a good class but now it has a chance to be historic.
