Jacoby Matthews Delays Commitment

They said our DC isn’t going to recruit until the nfl season is over. Maybe the new guy is our DB coach but I don’t think they announced his position on staff yet.

The longer he and Perkins delay the better off we are. Rumors are that Harold is signed and delivered though, unfortunately.

Florida is likely going to be a problem. Jacoby made some statements about Napier for lsu when the job opened and you have to imagine that Corey Raymond has him at the very top of his list.

He seems like one that we almost have to land. We lost Shazz, Law and Moss because of the coaching change.

Brian Kelly will have been on staff for three months before Jacoby signs.

I take it back- he has to land Mathews, I mean frick.

“I’m better than all those dudes so I’ll start and if I don’t I’ll just take their money and transfer to another school”

It’s a really basic thought process honestly

I think any player that delays their decision to February is a good thing for LSU. Gives the new coaching staff more time.

With the way the rules are now, this is really the thought process. For high profile recruits, go to the school that offers you the most and if you don't get any playing time take the red shirt and transfer to another school that will have ample opportunity to play. For some of these kids that's a big arse check to ignore. I don't fault them at all for playing the game for their personal benefit.

I thought he said this a month ago. He said he wanted to have time to get to know the LSU coaching staff. I don't think this delay has anything to do with Florida. I have no doubt Raymond will visit and try to get him to go over to UF, but I trust Frank will also be there convincing him to rep the boot.

Steeples is an interesting hire and with his DB background may have a role in the secondary. He's a dynamic, young coach and could be a good asset to recruit Mathews. I think the delay works in our favor.

It's the "I'll just take their money and transfer to another school" part that will be interesting to watch as NIL evolves. I do believe that a lot of these guys will hit the portal after a year.
