but have a limit of 85 on roster next season.

I'm counting 21 Seniors & BJ Ojulari, K.Boutte & J.Roy(?) declaring(24 total). Not sure if N. Cain or J.Daniels declare. 77 scholarship players presently(I'm probably wrong). Are we limited to less than the 85 man Roster limit next year due to sanctions? If not, would 32(77-24+32=85) be doable?

Count transfers out and potentially one or two others that go pro that maybe shouldn’t. We can do 32 but it’s looking like we are more in line for 27-29. But that’s probably for the best we probably want to spread those over 25s across a couple classes and not have one huge one or else we will be in the same boat in 3-4 years.

Edit: also I have no clue if what I said was true, I have tomorrow off and have had a few beers. Reasoning seems solid though.

Next year is the same process. 2025 or 2024 it is supposed to be back to normal.

21 seemed high to me, so I just went through the roster and I am only seeing 15 definite scholarship Seniors and Grad Students (including Jared Small and Colby Richardson). However, some of the 15 (at least 4 and maybe 5) have the Covid year counting as a year of eligibility used, so they would technically have another year of eligibility.

Unless all of Faust, Finison, MJ Frazier, Storz and/or Francioni have been put on scholarship by Kelly, they are walk-ons.

Also counted 74 on scholarship at present, including Raydar Jones.

Have to account for transfers and players being “processed”. I think they’ll sign around 27 high school kids and leave space to bring transfers in

This is why Kelly is going to be able to replenish the roster's talent much faster than normal. He came in at the perfect time.

Kelly's 1st class was #6 b/c of 4-5 elite HS recruits, the transfer portal & shite load of signees. He's going to take advantage of this while he can.

I guarantee that Bama & Georgia can see the writing on the wall & they don't like it. The rest of the SEC already knows they're about to get passed up.

You sign 25-29, leave the rest open for the inevitable transfers out and in.

Unless they change transfer portal rules, I would think it needs to be permanent or teams will continue to struggle to fill 85 man rosters
What is gonna happen, is players will be processed to make room and a lot of portal players will end up with no place to play

Where is Emery? He's actually only a sophomore in eligibility, with his redshirt and Covid year.

Great explanation. The one thing I would add: It's *especially* important to avoid putting ourselves back in this same situation 3-4yrs down the line, because 3-4yrs down the line we won't be permitted an unlimited class size like we are this year. If we bring in a class of 32, we'll be screwed when they transition out of the program, because we'll be capped at 25 incomers with which to replace them.

In 2020 LSU self imposed a 4 scholarship reduction for the 2021 and 2022 seasons and a bowl ban in 2020 due to the OLOL/Fines situation. However, the NCAA Committee on Infractions and their by-product case resolution program has yet to take up the LSU issue/infractions.

So basically, any assumption either way is just that - an assumption. Until the case is heard and a decision made, there is no clear answer to this question. The NCAA could decide this is a sufficient penalty for the past transgressions or decide to impose more restrictions.

He has used 3 years of his eligibility. He is a Senior this year with the option of returning next year due to the
Covid exception. Suspensions burn a year of eligibility that cannot be covered by a redshirt.

This is bullshite. Completely untrue.

You can redshirt while in fricking prison.

You have 5 years to play 4. Period. Plus covid year.

You are 100% wrong. This is taken directly from the 2022-2023 NCAA By-Laws and is the applicable rule:

12.8.1.7.1.2 Circumstances Within Control. Circumstances that are considered to be within the control of
the student-athlete or the institution and cause a participation opportunity to be used include, but are not limited
to, the following:
(Adopted: 8/10/94, Revised: 10/12/95, 10/9/96, 7/30/10, 7/31/14)
(a) A student-athlete's decision to attend an institution that does not sponsor the student-athlete's sport, or
decides not to participate at an institution that does sponsor the sport;
(b) An inability to participate due to failure to meet institutional/conference or NCAA academic requirements, or
disciplinary reasons or incarceration culminating in or resulting from a conviction;
(c) Reliance by a student-athlete upon misinformation from a coaching staff member;
(d) Redshirt year;
(e) Ineligibility to participate as a result of a transfer year of residence or fulfilling a condition for restoration of
eligibility; and
(f) A student-athlete's lack of understanding regarding the specific starting date of the five-year period of
eligibility.
