with the 25 cap

This is just a most likely ineffective PSA, but it is not the 25 that is new. 25 has been the limit for years and years. What has changed is how they count the 25.

They used to count only the athletes who showed up and went to class. If he didn't qualify, there was a way you could make it up the following year with an EE. NOW it's based on a signature on a piece of paper whether you show up or not. This is why you can't afford to sign someone who won't qualify.

However, if you don't sign 25, you can make it up next year if you have an EE. This is in the rules, so don't go nuts when you see it happen.

I don't know how they are initializing the counts for this year (i.e. are they using the bodies or the signatures from last year to figure out how many you can sign or is everybody starting with the firm 25), so I don't know if it will happen this year. Also, because of all the transfers that we took, I don't think LSU could take more than 25 or maybe the coming of this rule is why we took them.

Nah Mingo was in a 4-3. If he was in a traditional 3-4 he may have set records.

Last year, we took 27 new guys. 23 high school recruits made it to campus by August. We also had Seth Stewart, who quit football before camp, and the 3 transfers (Giles, Feheko & Moss). We also had 6 early entrants last year, and we don't know how many of them were counted toward the 2016 class limit.

I guess it depends on how many we had room for last year (I read in places that it was 28, but don't know for sure) and how they count Stewart and the transfers. I assume the transfers will count, but Stewart is an unknown to me. He was on campus for a few days prior to leaving, so I assume he's going to count, though.

Stewart is an example that shows the difference between the rules. Under the old rules he would never have become a counter because he didn't attend class in the fall (summer school doesn't count for this purpose.). Under the new rules, he counted against the 25 (not the 85) as soon as his signing papers became official back in Feb.

I'm not certain about how transfers were accounted for under the old way, but I think some were excluded from the 25 depending on circumstances. Under the new, everybody counts except multi-year walkons and and the rare recruit who suffers a career ending injury before he shows up.

As I understand it the transfers count against the 85 but not the 25. We have been told that 25 is the hard cap and that includes JUCOs. But the Miss State board has been saying the JUCOs don't count and they are the only ones you can use to back count to a previous class (if that was the case it would free up three extra spots for LSU). And the aTm board was saying something differently from that a few weeks ago.

So no one really knows. But I think LSU is only signing 25 including JUCOs.

Everybody counts except as I pointed out. There are no other exceptions. We sign a sr transfer; we lose a spot for a recruit. The hard cap is hard for an academic year, not the calendar year. If we were to only sign 24 thru Feb, then we could sign 26 the next two signing periods (assuming we had an EE that we could apply to this year to fulfill the 25).

He had a very up and down year this year so temper your expectations. He didn't even make the MS JUCO All-State team this year so no he isn't a Arden Key type.

Chassion will get better and might have better overall stats than Key by the time he's done.

You can tell that Chassion has some work to do with his hands, body positioning, and overall technique and depending on how quick he learns that and how smart he his while on the field will dictate how good he actually becomes.

I think he was just out there playing this year and was used to simply beating HS OLman on talent alone. He'll get better but no doubt Key was a special special talent. It's too bad that he had all these issues in his last season. Seems like that happens at LSU quite often when we get special players. That has to start changing, and I'm not blaming anyone but the fortune needs to change BF LSU ever ascends.

He hadn't played football very long had he? I thought I read he might not have played until his junior year, but I might be making that up

Moore had like only 8 tackles the entire season and I dont think he was hurt at any point. So no he will not be an Arden Key.

Key.....gains tremendous amount of "good weight" prior to enrolling in LSU. Plays extremely well freshman and sophisticated year. Then has to leave for " personal reasons". Comes back over weight and not as quick or strong. Now will miss bowl game. Deduce ...without roids, he is not the same.
I hope Travel has that untapped talent, but hope he is NOT the next Key, in that respect.

No he hadn't you're correct on that.

He was the guy who came to an LSU camp was offered and told to go play football, so that's what he did and became an AA talent lmao. He's good
