Hurricane Katrina permanently displacing people from the NOLA area was and is real. Seems to be 2 or 3 a year from Nola that now live in Texas. So I’d almost even say that the Nola talent is getting worse, not necessarily the state.

2011 - 11
2012 - 11
2013 - 12
2014 - 16
2015 - 12
2016 - 19

2021 - 9
2021 doesn’t look great compared to the previous decade, but we are also talking about kids who haven’t played their senior year of HS football yet. Overall I don’t know that there’s much of a trend one way or another.
There are definitely individual up and down years. The 2019 LA class was pretty well stacked and there are a bunch of guys we haven’t even seen hit the field yet.

Fair to say that because of this, the op has a good question.
La has great talent. I’d rather have that talent back in Nola if it was doable.

I dont see a significant difference. LSU just getting more selective.
National approach now and I love it. Bama beat LSU to this, but the ‘19 season is supercharging this shift in philosophy.

New Orleans area talent definitely took a hit after Katrina and a lot of it never returned.

I doubt it the off season stuff has gotten a lot better. I can only see the talent getting better.

It already has. According to Ryan Clark who coaches the bootleggers 7 on 7 team. The quarterback position has evolved over the last few years. He said that is why we are seeing better rated quarterbacks in Louisiana. If you have never heard of the bootleggers, they are probably the best 7 on 7 team in the state
