The point guards were a pick one of the 3...that would give you a 1, 2, 3/4 and a 5 (Had no post player to list, 1 bad position in state tho Zay Henderson can play too, he's going to Murray State out of Neville) But Qualls could easily come in and play the 3 at LSU, with practice, he right now has the size to play a little undersized 4. ESPN gave Qualls 3 stars and put him 149 in the top 150.

I like Qualls, however, LSU is overloaded with wings. I don't like him more than Morgan, Coleman or Hammink.
You and I are on the same page. I think with Johnny on board, we will see Louisiana recruited harder. Louisiana has just been heavy on the wing players the last few years. I can name about a dozen. LSU had no choice but to pass on most of them. Power forwards and centers? 1 or 2. That's the problem.

Yea I agree...the 4 and 5 position has been rough, but you did have Jarreau that went D1 to Washington and Zay Henderson this year who's going to Murray State. That's the second Murray State player out of Louisiana in 2 years.

And don't get me wrong, its not LSU. But as the flagship not to really own this state, its not good. As many mid level talent kids as there are, Tech, ULL, Tulane, and Northwestern should be good. Even Grambling and Southern, anybody can get in there and as many kids get left out they should be at least good enough to win the SWAC on average. Its just sad. Tho I did see where Grambling's Girls got one of the top 100 hundred players in the country. Don't know why or how but it happened lol.

If LSU could have just gotten Morgan, Qualls, Benjiman, Gray, Felix, or Wagner and a scoring post player, that team would compete in the SEC in 2013,

Added to what they already have...yea..JOB, Hickey, and company, yea...they could, outside of Kentucky and Florida, SEC ain't that good lol. There's a reason there were only 3 in the final top 25. Be thankful for the Pac 10.

Deshaun Thomas and William Buford where both top 25 players. Ohio State had four McDonald's All-Americans (including one that rarely saw the floor,Louisville had three former McDonald's All-Americans on this year's team while Kentucky had 6.
While the tournament allows your occasional VCU or Butler, consistent success in college basketball generally involves developing the talent of players that stay (Kansas this year was an example of that) combined with fully utilizing the talent of players likely to leave early (imagine this year's Kansas squad with Josh Shelby).
There's a reason every national champion since 1979 has had at least one McDonald's All-American (only 6 have had just one). Perhaps even more interesting is that the Maryland squad that didn't have one at the time they won it all had one the previous year. . .he was sitting out as a transfer that year (Danny Miller).

You must recruit top twenty players to win championships. Gathers was the highest rated player in Louisiana this year at no. 37.
Next year our highest rated player is 62 !
You cannot compete with Louisiana players!
04 was an extremely unusual year! Look at what Kentucky and Florida are doing. Kentucky only had 3 players from Kentucky on their team.
Dale brown recruited nationally his greatest players were from out of state.
A kid rated 72 in the top 150 is not going to win championships in the SEC. Look at Derenbecker he could not compete in the SEC!
Copy what Kentucky and Florida are doing!

Selby barely played last season and that Kansas team was much better than this years. Kansas is better when they run the offense through the bigs and not ball hogs like josh Selby and sheron Collins.

Yea you have to recruit out of state, but that's once you establish your program. Right now, LSU basketball is not a national commodity, thinking about a final four or a championship right now is asinine. Can we get in the tourney first? Can we win the SEC first? Can we get out of the bottom half of the SEC first? And that starts with building your program, which is where the instate recruiting comes in. You are not gonna build a winning program when you're losing and picking up scraps last minute because you went after 4 and 5 star recruits who don't wanna come to your program cause it sucks right now. That is just the reality of the program.

lock down in-state, and you'll notice that once we start winning, more anthony randolphs and johnny o'bryants will start coming from out of state.

So LSU made it to the Final Four with a starting lineup composed of players from Louisiana once since the slam dunk was re-allowed in college basketball. That's hardly a data point you'd want to base your recruiting strategy on. Compare that to the fact LSU has made it to the Final Four twice as often when the starting lineup included players from out of state. LSU wouldn't have come close to making the Final Four if you took Rudy Mackin, Greg Cook and Willie Sims away from the 1981 team, and the same can be said of 1986 if you take away John Williams and Ricky Blanton.
