That's my point. It's an educated guess based on a multitude of factors. It's not exactly what they are making. It's like when Forbes posts an article about the most valuable sports franchises. If a company is valued at a billion dollars, it doesn't mean that they are bringing in a billion dollars. Now if On3 labeled it "NIL earnings" instead of "NIL valuation" that would be a different story.
This isn’t even close to the same thing. We know for a fact what previous franchises sold for. We know for a fact what TV contracts are. We know for a fact what merchandise and ticket sales are. Those are truly educated guesses.
We don’t know ANY hard NIL numbers. There’s nothing educated about it. On3 even publishes that it’s a proprietary algorithm. Half the algorithm is based on “Roster Value” and “NIL”. They define both factors are defined as:
“Roster Value collects data from all school collectives, players, and representatives using a proprietary Roster Management algorithm. NIL value measures the licensing and sponsorship market through exposure and social media influence. Roster Value and NIL combine to create the overall On3 NIL Valuation.”
It’s a stupid arse metric with no public, hard data created to get clicks. Period.

Josh Pate does a really good job discussing Kelly's comments on paying players.
Bottom line: Kelly is right and he's going to build the right foundation and culture to be successful.

You don’t think they have any clue what any of these players are making? Yeah they might not know they exact number, but they definitely know a ballpark. If nobody knew any numbers, then how is everyone on this board so certain that Williams and Barrow were asking for a crazy amount of money?
If they walk have had Williams’ NIL valuation at $1.2 million before he entered the portal you would have called them crazy right? But they would have been right and you would have been wrong.

That’s why I said “It's an educated guess based on a multitude of factors.”

No not really. This has been around for a couple years now and players, schools, and local media have always laughed at these numbers. If it’s supposed to be an estimate and not a factual dollar figure, then it’s a really bad estimate.

Because it’s been reported by the local media of different teams. Shea Dixon said today on his pod that Williams was asking for 3X what Walter Nolen received from Ole Miss. Moscona reported earlier this week that he was asking for double what Will Campbell currently earns. That’s crazy money.

Nothing educated about it from what I can tell

Directly above this you stated that nobody knows what these guys are making. Which is it? Do guys like Shea, Moscona, and local media know or not?

My point that it isn't even educated. It isn't a valuation. It isn't educated.
It's a pure guess for clicks.

Why don't you think it's educated? You think they don't have anything that they are basing these numbers off of?

Listened to that this morning. Cant piss off the players in the locker room for a one year rental.

Nobody in terms on the general public, in contrast to the very public facts and figures Forbes uses to determine franchise value in your bad example.
Even the reporters very rarely say exact dollar figures, only percentages relative to other players. They may or may not know dollar figures, only X% above or below other players that they learn from sources.
Even if you don’t buy any of that, Sherman Wilson definitely knows and he’s telling you it’s horseshite.

Sherm is now telling Josh Pate that he has no idea what he is talking about.

The public does know the ballpark though. Moscona, who you are using as an example has publicly said that LSU offered both Wingo and Smith $500k to stay. He also said that Williams was asking for 7 figures that would have made him the 2nd highest paid guy in the program behind BK. So if you believe that, you can start at $2.5 million.
These On3 numbers aren't made by the general public. They are insiders who talk to players, coaches, boosters, ect. They definitely have inside info on what some of these guys are making. You used Shea Dixon as an example of someone who might know what they are making. Shea works for On3.

The comparison is to explain to people the difference between "valuation" and "earnings"

Interesting. Pate didn't criticize the collective in the video. I have noticed that sometimes he straddles narratives. That way you can always be right. Or at least half right.

Sherm suddenly likes the analysis of On3 guys. A few hours ago he was saying that website thrived off of negativity.

Man this guys is losing it right now. Our NIL must actually be that bad
Posted on 5/10/24 at 8:20 pm to LSBoosie
No, the difference is between educated and non-educated guess. Franchise estimates are educated, these NIL estimates are not.

Then they shouldn’t have been sitting on their hands with DTs in the fall portal. It blows my mind that they didn’t lane a single real impact guy at the position they need the most. The DB portal recruiting was bargain bin bs too

quote:Again, you hate LSU, so you latch onto anything negative. Andy has been a shite talker running his mouth. Several local LSU guys have already called his bullshite out. Sherm isn't the only one.
I don't understand what he is complaining about. On3 is the biggest recruiting website and NIL is a huge part of recruiting. Why wouldn't they have stuff about NIL on their website? Notice he doesn't get all pissed off when On3 posts about two LSU women's athletes being top NIL earners, he celebrates it.
Also, what did Andy Staples say that was wrong? He said the same thing that this board has been saying. Those guys were overpriced and not worth what they were asking.
Andy took a 3 eecond soundbite and is running with it to get his numbers up. It's how lame reporters you like work nowadays.
