How many guys can we sign based on guy’s graduating, going pro or transferring as of now?

I know it’s a rough number but with the 25 limit now gone, what do our numbers look like? We lost 14 transfers by my count last year and signed eight counting Chesnutt who reportedly wants to redshirt and transfer but I thought we were below the scholarship player limit to begin the year as well.

Correct. Take as many as you want and just have to get to the 85 limit by certain date. Transfer portal will take care of excesses most likely.
Another unfortunate side of this business is some in the class might get trimmed too if numbers are tight.

dstone has a thread showing the depth chart or more accurately the depth of the team that indicates 93 players with eligibility remaining factoring in the commitments for 2024 prior to any attrition. I think he is off by 3; Turner and Martinez both should have an additional year if they so choose to return and the kicker Burrell is/was not listed. So 96 before any attrition. I can see 2 transfers for sure and 11 to 13 that may try the draft. 15 off the 96 would put us at 81. 26 present commits + 4 more = 30 and 81 + 4 = 85. Will there be more attrition due to transfers, I believe so, therefore there should be room for a few portal players.

Also, some walk-ons are given scholarships during Fall camp. They may not be renewed. Others who haven’t contributed (Peyton Todd) and can afford to pay their own way may have their’s taken after the coach talks to them.

No player with this situation is included in the 96 figure.

Risky move with your presumed starting punter considering the roster limit must be met by the start of fall camp. Pull it early and you risk said player bolting to the portal and then you are looking for a punter in the portal and expending a scholarship anyway. Pull it late and you risk him bolting and you are down to a walk-on off the current roster.
