How influential are players on each other in their commits?

I am a tad skeptical about Player A having a lot of influence on Player B (avoiding names like the plague on purpose) as far as tugging the second guy to commit to a particular school. I'm NOT talking legacies, I'm talking friends/teammates etc.
From my empirical evidence, I'm guessing that maybe 20% of the players who say they are going to the same school actually end up there. This would be a great poll question but I assume there is no poll feature right?

Because 80% of the time, the two prospects aren't on the same level. Especially if one of them is elite enough to go to a top 5 program. Rarely do you have 3, or even 4. Karr has 4 this year.

Depends on the position, but think of the value of top QB and reciver that been playing together since grade school. That is a combination that is not developed over night especially if the QB and reciver are on a level where the ball is thrown to a spot on the field rather than just tracking the guy.

Great point and really hadn't thought of that before. QB and WR are probably the closest positions tied together at the hip...of course you have an OT and an OG playing next to each other or a DL and a DE but there probably is nothing like a QB and a WR playing together or being best friends in HS/HS(s). Contrary to that, having a WR and a LBer as friends, about all they can do is slap hands as units pass each other on a turnover.

We've recently just signed a RB OL duo, also.

What about QB and OL...:rimshot:

Depends on how good a protector the OL is for the QB. My guess is there have been some best friends (OL and QB) who when the QB found out which college the OL was considering, the QB crossed that school off his list.

20 % is still probably too high a figure
closer to 10 %
Kids will almost always do what's best for them because they have parents and people surrounding them guiding them, helping them make that critical decision. They don't go to a school on a whim.
