How does the scholarship carry over rule work with the 7 for 7

You used to be able to carry scholarships over till the next year if you didn’t sign all of your 25. You could use them on the next year for early enrollees. Does that change now with the new transfer rule.

I assume we have a competent coach to make sure we don’t lose out on possible players and scholarships.

If we don’t fill our 25 but do sign 7 transfers. I’d assume we could still carry over the remainder of the 25 that aren’t used as long as we designated the 7 transfers as that rules designation. Not sure if that’s how it works. Any idea?

Simple sign transfers to the unused 25 slots. This roster is so thin you can't save scholarships for next season.

Not sure. But with the way the ncaa fricked things up anyone should be allowed to get to 85 any way they can.

We have one scholarship qb for a bowl game.

At present, this is a one time waiver granted by the NCAA. It is a use it or lose it proposition.

If LSU qualifies for all 7 spots, all 7 spots would have to be filled this year. Have until the beginning of Fall Camp to fill the spots.

I know we need to at minimum use out 7 for 7. But I’m just saying our 25 may not be all used. Would t be terrible if we can’t fill them all to carry them over the 2023 class for Louisiana is Olof just like the 22 class. Shouldn’t have the same issues. Likely be able to capitalize with a cop eta t staff with no issues in place a lot harder to negative recruit against lsu now. And we will have a full year like this unlike this year where we got behind the ball because of Os short cumming

Thanks Curtis. Do you know: can we only sign a maximum of 7 transfers? I've seen 25 high school plus 7 transfers for a max of 32; could we hypothetically sign 20 high school and 12 transfers for that max of 32?

25 initial counters and 7 transfers (if you qualify for 7 transfers and have room under the 85 scholarship limit). Initial counters can be high school, JUCO or transfers.

The 7 additional are only after you fill out the 25. Not chronologically, as in you can have 7 transfers then fill out any spots in the 25+7 with high school players who sign late.

Of course that depends on if you have enough players transfer out after the semester.

Alabama signs however many they want each year. LSU can sign up to 32 people. 7 of those 32 have to be transfers.

if LSU signs 25 recruits and 7 transfers they will have to trim 3 from the roster...

Actually, that is a quote from a free 247 article. 247 Link

"As of Dec. 8, LSU had eight players declare for the NCAA Transfer Portal off the 2021 roster.

Minus those eight, and projecting Derek Stingley Jr. and Cade York as early declarations for the 2022 NFL Draft, along with Damone Clark, Ed Ingram and Micah Baskerville projected to decline returning for an extra year, the roster sits at 59 players on scholarship. That includes projecting Chasen Hines, Todd Harris, Soni Fonua and Avery Atkins return for an extra year due to 2020 not counting towards their eligibility. That number also reflects Pig Cage listed as a walk-on and projecting Josh Williams and Jack Mashburn on scholarship.

Add in 32 potential newcomers – made up of high school recruits and college transfers – and LSU would need to lose three more players to get down to the NCAA limit of 85."

Just last week we had a thread on this board where some one came up with 57 scholarship players for next year before 2022 signees and any incoming transfers.

57+25+7=89-85=4 over the limit of 85.

Isn't next year also the second year of our self imposed scholarship reduction? The wording of the reduction was 8 scholarships over 2 years, so I'm not sure how many of those we ended to conceding this year.
