Bottom line. you were talking about how great this class was going to be the best class in recruiting history compared to Florida and USC.

This class is a lock for #1 or #2. Depends on landing some out of state talent and bumps to deserving players like Quinn, and seeing who Bama finishes with, who they add and who they lose.

I don't get the obsession with the #1 class anyhow.
LSU has averaged a class ranking of 7.4 over Miles' tenure here (not counting 2005 since that was a tough one for him given the small class and time constraints).
LSU has had a top 2 class exactly ONCE in that time frame. LSU has only had a top 5 class twice in that same time frame. Getting a top 3 class is a big deal.
LSU with an average of 7.4 has done pretty well in the winning % column, so I am not sure why people are freaking out.

To answer your question OP we don't finish number 1. Hopefully we can get to number 2.
Personally a lot of times I don't think rankings matter when you are talking about a player ranked #1 at their position versus ranked #5 at their position. The differences can be made up in coaching, developing talent and putting players in the best position to maximize their skills.
The posters saying recruiting doesn't matter are delusional. Saban is a better coach than miles and there is no doubting that. We need to have the best talent to make up for that small gap in coaching and we aren't getting the very best.
It wouldn't be such a big deal if the team we are losing to in recruiting wasn't in our division.

How in the world do you KNOW this?? Our class is currently ranked 21st. There is absolutely no guarantee that all the people you're counting on will sign at LSU. The list keeps shrinking.

Eta: Im not upset like some because Hootie to bama isn't a surprise/shock. This has been the general thought on this board for 2 months. Of coarse, people held out hope, but most people figured that he was gone.
