Does the player have an agent? Do the parents do the negotiating?

And who represents the school, the recruiter or someone else?

The player usually has a parent or a handler. Someone who lacks any shame.

The school has to tread carefully, because it's about making sure the collective or booster running point is willing and good for it.

Imo….No one on chat boards really knows…or at least there are so much wrong info, it’s impossible to sift through. When someone starts talking about another school’s “endowment”, they definitely don’t know.

It makes sense that it would come to this, but it seems if we we’re already to this level, we would probably know of names acting in this capacity. Who is the Jimmy Sexton? of recruiting. One reason we probably don’t is because there’s a lot of things still to be figured out. State laws are all over the place and IRS rulings will be probably impact how things are done.

IRS rulings

When a nonprofit collective treats a payment to a player as a legitimate nonprofit expenditure, just because the player makes a hospital visit…seems unlikely the IRS would find this reasonable. But the IRS isn’t often in a hurry and often times is at the mercy of larger political forces. So it will be interesting…

The money received by the player would be taxable income to the player whether the payment came from a for profit or non profit entity.

Yes. But i was thinking of the donor side. Could this reasonably be considered a legitimate nonprofit donation? Honestly, I am going purely on random things Ive read about collectives being setup as nonprofits. I honestly dont know if that’s the case. But if they tryto pull off nonprofit status, and alum are expecting to write off payments to play football as legitimate contributions, then I would think (hope) the IRS would rule this as improper.
