quote:What you say above is partly true. Trent was a coach who played a walk up the floor offense that needed good big men to flourish and he was a coach that emphasized defense. Okay look at those recruits in that light.
Stringer Derenbecker Turner were all Top 100 recruits. Turner was all league freshman. JOB and Hickey are touted as anchors for this coming team. Hamilton was 2nd team all SEC. Be fair. These players didn't just fall into his lap. I do agree that he didn't do enuff though. Only one signee in early period and losing Hamilton might have set LSU back again.
Stringer, Turner and Derenbecker were all undersized players that had to have an open three to score. None of them were good defensive players although Stringer has developed into one given his height limitations. Did any of them fit Trent's system? Not hardly!
In his whole time at LSU Trent recruited just one good big man, Johnny O'Bryant. Hamilton and White were transfers and White was hardly good. Hamilton lasted one season.
The thing that really showed how bad a recruiter he was is who he got the year after an SEC championship and an tournament appearance. Aaron Dotosn and Eddie Ludwig. I liked both players but they should have been who he picked up to fill out the roster if he had to, not the only players signed. Dotson was recovering from a serious injury and was not really ready to play his freshman year and Eddie needed a lot of work to develop. This is all he got after we lost four top players and is why we were crippled for the next two years.

I never wanted to believe he was lazy, but it seems like that was the case. Can't think of any other reason why his recruiting was so bad.
