same goes for a guy like Dez Bryant, who needs him, LSU's a better program than OSU

Damn, you got me again Books. I thought the #1 WR on the $9 sites was Terrence Toliver.

The funny thing is people on here bitch because we don't get LBs like this and this guy is the perfect mold for those kick arse MLBs that the Big 10 produces.

Watched him a few times in '08. He got the better of Chris Faulk last season FWIW

mandeville's coach used to change his entire offensive strategy just to scheme for Bates.

he'll play LB for LSU most likely.

i'd hate to chime in here with something positive but he actually looks pretty quick and explosive in that combine footage where he got MVP. there were a lot of good players in attendance so to stand out that much he must be somewhat athletic.

How do those defenses perform against SEC spread offenses?

re: size and speed
As measured at LSU Camp 10 days ago:
6'-2.5", 230ish (not sure of exact weight, but around 230#) Ran the 40 in 4.65, shuttle in 4.2, 35" vertical leap. I don't know why Rivals is so slow to post updates.

For those that are concerned about any tentativeness and/or uncertainty displayed while playing LB at camp, I offer these facts. He hasn't played LB since he was a MLB (and RB) in 8th grade. He isn't just football smart, he's everything smart. He is extremely competitive and a high achiever. Whatever scheme The Chief implements; Houston will study it, absorb it, and execute it as designed.

I predict that by December 2011, no one will be questioning Houston Bates' size, speed, or anything else. Tiger fans are going to love this kid.

both teams always show up for bowl games, Tiger Tap.

Why'd you change your name from tiger tap again?

Just asking, but you guys wouldn't take Laurinaitis or Pozloszny (sp?) as a MLB for LSU? They're both starters in the NFL or projected to be.

I actually think that passing on Mauti from Mandeville two years ago was one of Peveto's dumbest moves. That guy looked like a stud in the Army game, especially compared to Prater. He's already logging time for PSU.

It's not like it's that huge of a difference.

Southern Cal was also pushing for Bates to camp there.

The people that like the Houston Bates signing must have forgot that LSU gets whoever we want. Nothing but 5 stars who run sub 4.4 40's. No use for high character hard workers that help all aspects of a team.

People that don't like this commitment are the same people that are bitching about the baseball team lineup when we are 1 win away from the CWS Championship game.
