Look, wrong might not be the best word to use, but if you don't think that he burned our coaches asses by saying it's THEIR fault he chose Bama, then I just lost respect for you.
Way off base, I assumed you were talking about how he's handling the process now
Also, I thought it was his mother that made those statements.

The problem for the fans is that we don't really know who is legit and genuinely knows something vs. who is a blow-hard that just likes to bla,bla,bla..

I'm with Sofa, our staff looks like a bunch of damn titty babies if they can't get over a few comments.

^ see this line of thinking is so retarded to me. The coaching staff of LSU is full of grown men. They most likely could give two shits about what Hootie said. They aren't too prideful to take one of the states top players if he doesn't "apologize." That is such a childish way to think.

And you sound like you have a prejudiced attitude towards our coaches...why would you assume anything negative towards OUR coaches with not real knowledge! Clue the syllable arse!

and then his family comes out and says LSU didn't treat his mom the way Bama did?
I mean if you need more than that then you probably already had your mind made up.
In the end, the staff needs players, players they feel will step up and make this team great.
Can't fault them for that, unless of course you are a recruiting guru here that thinks you know more about football and coaching and recruiting than the coaches.....

He has contacted them either right before or right after he changed his mind with bama

Thing is, I don't think he needs to "apologize". I just think he needs to be the one handling his recruitment with the LSU staff.

another thing that irritates me is this thought that the way the coaches are "handling this situation" is "perpetuating the fanbase" to act emotionally. It has literally been 2 days since Hootie said he was backing out of his commitment to Alabama. He didnt say that he was decommiting and jumping right into the LSU recruiting class. He only stated that he needed time to think. Just because nobody has heard anything from the coaching staff in the first few days everyone jumps on the recruiting board throwing out theories and talking about how the coach is "upset" with Hootie and has too much "pride." The whole situation is kind of laughable.
ETA: But then again, who am I to give my opinion. Im not a LSU coach or a "recruitnik." I just find it amusing that people are so upset over the situation while its in its infancy. People are blowing every word out of proportion when all we really know is that there is a lack of knowledge on the situation.
In the end LSU will have another amazing class

Yes. But the croissants were store-bought.
Terry Saban had a team of master-croissant-bakers-flown in from Toulouse.
Then after serving them, Nick had The Frenchies summarily executed so no other recruit would ever eat croissants as delightful.
It's that kind of detail that impresses kids.

This is his recruitment and up to this point he (or whoever isinstructing him) hasn't handled it well. Proof is him being de-committed from his choice of 1 week.
And even IF it were his mother's words, he talked with her before she said em and it is HIS name that she is using as her platform. Like it or not, it becomes his issue at that point and he has to own up to it....welcome to the real world

Do these drama queens "sashay by"... as they do in the French Quarter? lol I will give the coaches the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise! CLM has bent over backwards to get the top Louisiana recruits. And several have rejected the best efforts of the entire staff. Then they run their mouth in negative ways to hurt LSU...why would a real LSU fan take the side of a spoiled 18 kid over mature adults that have given their best shot at helping out OUR state school? I just don't get it...unless their is prejudice involved...jmho

you are reading way too far into comments dude. Nobody is "taking sides." What they're doing is knocking down the theory that Les and staff wont take Hootie because of comments he made, which is just that, a theory. And a pretty retarded one at that. What I have said is that the staff is a group of grown men. Grown men don't hold things like that close to their chest and stay upset about them for long. Its just a childish way to think. Whether Hootie comes to LSU or goes elsewhere, I will be an LSU fan. I have a ton of respect for coach Miles and the staff. I just think the line of reasoning that they wont take a top in state recruit because "their feelings are hurt" is stupid. No prejudice here. I've never met Hootie.

And what I'm saying is this...the staff is finally doing what I've said before needs to be done...reestablish some discipline and demand some respect from these recruits that they have spent so much time and energy on. They have been reduced to groveling at times and have lost any semblance of control on the situation. You don't earn respect by begging 18 year olds to like you and come play for you. And yes some teens are still emotionally immature and want unearned power over adults. I know what I'm talking about. Adults have to hold the line even when it's not fun! And singing "Happy Birthday" didn't endear CR with LSU...fact! I say, recruit hard, YES, but groveling hurts the entire process! jmho

I see where youre coming from Phil. Didnt realize that was the point you were trying to emphasize. I still disagree and think that you take a top in state prospect. You don't have to coddle them, but a team is a team and you would enjoy for it to be filled with top talent especially from Louisiana.
Cadello and Vermillion, will you two both download an instant messenger and just attack each other there? I've seen you two arguing in multiple threads since the Memphis ordeal and its just getting old.

overthinking this?
simple questions?
do we have room for him in this class?
does he fill a need and can he contribute to overall team success.
Is there anyone on board who would commit that is a better fit.
will he accept and stay committed.
Business decision if favorable then he is a take
what he said in past is in the past

In this particular case with HJ, none of us on the outside know all the facts and probably never will.
But over the course of several years, this recruiting process has become more like a circus. Because of the competition for top flight talent means more than anything else in college football, it has encouraged coaches to do anything and everything(cheating in many cases), singing to recruit's family members included, and the inmates are in charge of the asylum, so to speak. And some of these supposedly young men are not used to so much power. And I can tell you from personal and professional experience that this is not healthy for anyone involved!!! Problems will always develop because of it...and they have...and they will get worse...to all of our detriment...jmho

I was looking at the predictions on Hootie on 247, and there were several Ole Miss predictions. Where's this coming from?

Looks like 3 out of the 6 are Ole Miss people. Others aren't real insiders or anything, just follow along with the picks. Shannon Terry is a real head scratcher, though.

I think he'll eventually end up at LSU, but I wouldn't exactly put money on it. I understand the feeling with Ole Miss.
