Evaluating QBs is one of the hardest things to do in sports, and recruiting sites are wrong more often than they are right

Honestly, I don't even think the evals of Holstein were "wrong" per se. His rating was based entirely on upside. He wasn't rated highly because he had a good chance of being a solid P5 starter; he was rated highly because he had an outside chance of being a supernova-level star. His athletic testing numbers absolutely shattered whatever QB records were on the books previously. Even if you think there's a 60% chance he completely busts and does absolutely nothing, a 10% chance of being a superstar is enough to get you into the top 100 as a QB.

Basically, I think his ratings reflected that he had a much-higher-than-usual chance of going belly up. So the fact that he seems to be going belly up doesn't really prove them wrong.

How the hell can you say that? Because he’s not starting at Bama week 3 of his true freshman year?

I certainly have no source, but there was a lot of talk about Lonergan (the other Bama freshman quarterback) playing well in the preseason scrimmages. No one ever mentioned Holstein at all.

Gotta figure Milroe and Simpson will be on their roster next year, along with Lonergan, with Sayin arriving in the Spring. If Holstein is 5th on the depth chart with no path to eventually start, I imagine he will be on the move.

Collins takes snaps as QB3.

Holstein spends all of his time at practice throwing balls back to the punter.

So if you switch quarterbacks and put Holstein on Woodlawn, you think he would have made that big of difference? Put Collins on that Zachary team and they don't skip a beat IMO.

Now I'll ask you: Based on what?

I'm sorry, if you have a QB in high school who is qualified to play at LSU, you don't go 4-7. I realize it is a team sport, but c'mon.

Rickie Collins is a good athlete. He's flawed as a passer. If he got signed by Tulane, that's a nice pickup. LSU absolutely reached for him.
